Role description
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to design, build, and scale modern data platforms for a growing oil and gas client. This role is part of a large-scale modernization project and will be responsible for architecting cloud-based data solutions, leading engineering teams, and driving best practices across data ingestion, processing, and analytics. Only candidates currently residing in Houston, TX will be considered for this role. Key Responsibilities • Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native data architectures to support upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. • Architect and develop scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured data. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data engineers. • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions. • Ensure high data quality, governance, and security standards across platforms. • Optimize data workflows for performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability. • Drive adoption of modern data engineering tools, frameworks, and best practices. Required Qualifications • 7+ years of experience implementing cloud data architecture solutions. • 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS, including services such as: • S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, EMR, and/or Kinesis • Extensive experience with Databricks, including: • Delta Lake • Spark-based data processing • Workflow orchestration and optimization • Proven experience building and managing large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines. • Solid understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and lakehouse architectures.
