Role description
Data Engineer β Payments Migration (Contract)
Weβre working with a leading consulting firm, who are delivery a key payments migration programme for a leading financial services firm, moving processing from a third-party provider into an in-house environment.
The immediate focus is to stand up core processing and connectivity quickly, with minimal disruption β so this role needs someone who has done this before in live, high-volume systems.
What youβll be doing:
β’ Supporting data migration activity within a payments environment
β’ Building and executing ETL pipelines and migration runs
β’ Troubleshooting data defects and issues
β’ Supporting dress rehearsals and go-live
β’ Designing safe data extraction approaches from live systems
Experience required:
β’ Proven experience delivering data migration in banking or payments systems
β’ Strong hands-on expertise with IBM DB2 on mainframe, including:
β’ Indexing, clustering, partitioning, archiving
β’ Query optimisation in high-volume environments
β’ Experience working in large-scale, high-throughput systems where:
β’ Data extraction cannot impact live processing
Youβll need to be confident with:
β’ Data mapping and lineage
β’ Extracting data from complex, congested tables
β’ Reconciliation and validation of migrated datasets
β’ Running ETL processes in controlled production environments
Key considerations:
β’ Delivering extraction with zero impact to BAU payments processing
β’ Managing production risk carefully and pragmatically
β’ Working in environments where systems are complex and not always well documented
What matters:
β’ Able to work independently in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment
β’ Proactive in identifying issues early
β’ Comfortable escalating risks clearly and quickly
β’ Focused on delivery and getting things done safely
If youβve delivered data migration in live payments environments and understand the risks involved, this is worth a conversation.
