Role description
Position: Senior Data Engineer - Talend & Snowflake Employment Type: Contract Start: ASAP (January/February 2026) Duration: 6 Months Location: London, UK (Hybrid, 3 day office) Language(s): English Focus on SAP is a specialist SAP and ERP Recruitment organisation offering both permanent and contract staffing solutions on a global scale. Role – We are seeking Senior Data Engineers with strong expertise in Talend and Snowflake to support a major modernisation initiative, migrating legacy Talend-based ETL into a modern cloud-native Snowflake architecture. This role will suit engineers who enjoy solving complex data problems, modernising pipelines, scaling data products, and partnering with cross-functional teams in a fast-moving, data-driven environment. You will work with a modern stack including Snowflake, Talend, DBT, Python, SQL, Azure/AWS, Airflow and Terraform, contributing to a broad transformation of data capabilities across the organisation. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Talend (current state) and Snowflake / DBT (target state). • Lead and execute the migration of legacy ETL workloads to Snowflake with minimal disruption. • Build data integrations from varied sources including databases, APIs, and file interfaces. • Write high-quality SQL for transformations, validation, and optimisation. • Improve performance through parallelisation, resource tuning, and job optimisation. • Contribute to data modelling for warehouse and data lake environments (including Data Vault). • Collaborate with Data Architects, Data Scientists, and Product teams on solution design. • Ensure strong data governance, quality checks, profiling, and validation. • Mentor junior engineers and drive engineering best practices in code, CI/CD, and deployment workflows. • Support cloud-based data solutions across Azure/AWS, including orchestration via Airflow. • Advocate for modern data engineering standards across the wider team. Key Skills • Strong hands-on experience with Talend Studio for ETL design and data integration. • Advanced SQL and ETL/ELT development experience. • Expertise in Snowflake (architecture, performance tuning, query optimisation). • Experience with DBT for transformation workflows. • Proven experience migrating legacy pipelines to modern data platforms. • Experience developing data models for warehouse/lake environments. • Experience with Python and/or Shell scripting. • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS). • Experience with CI/CD, version control (GitHub), and modern DevOps workflows. • Strong communication and cross-team collaboration capability. • Demonstrated ability to operate in fast-paced, enterprise programmes.
