Senior Data Migration Engineer (Microsoft Stack)

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Data Migration Engineer to join a major data migration programme within a leading banking organisation. This contract role sits at the heart of a large-scale transformation initiative, supporting the modernisation of data platforms and enabling high-quality, data-driven decision-making across the business. Role Overview As a Data Developer, you will lead the migration of complex data from legacy systems into modern target platforms. You will work closely with both technical and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and traceability throughout the migration lifecycle. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain data solutions using the Microsoft BI stack (SSRS, SSIS, T-SQL). • Lead and support end-to-end data migration activities, from analysis through validation and deployment. • Analyse complex legacy data sets to understand structure, quality, and usage, particularly where documentation is limited. • Translate business requirements into clear, robust technical specifications. • Perform source-to-target data mapping, defining transformations, calculations, and derivations. • Conduct data profiling to identify quality issues and support remediation. • Work with data models and entity relationship diagrams for source and target systems. • Drive improvements in performance, automation, data quality, and reliability. • Administer, maintain, and support data analytics platforms. • Perform unit testing, troubleshoot issues, and support seamless system integration. • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation. • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in an agile delivery environment. About You • Strong experience designing and developing solutions using the Microsoft BI stack (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, T-SQL). • Demonstrable experience delivering data migration projects, particularly from legacy systems. • Advanced SQL skills (T-SQL or PL/SQL). • Solid understanding of ETL/ELT, data warehousing, BI, and cloud-based data solutions. • Experience with Databricks is highly desirable. • Microsoft certifications in SQL would give you a distinct advantage. • Experience working in agile environments, with exposure to CI/CD and test automation. • Proactive, self-starter, comfortable working autonomously and collaboratively.
