Role description
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Sr Data Modeler/Architect to design and deliver a world-class data architecture for a large, complex enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will establish robust data governance, enforce enterprise-wide data standards, and ensure a single version of truth across cloud and on-premise platforms, with a strong preference for financial services domain expertise.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data architecture, ensuring strong data governance, best practices, policies, and procedures across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Design and optimize highly performant Operational Data Stores (ODS) and near real-time Data Warehouses, leveraging industry-standard Kimball and Inmon methodologies.
• Create and maintain Conceptual, Logical, Physical, and ER data models for enterprise systems, with extensive hands-on experience using Erwin or similar data modeling tools.
• Drive data and model reuse across the organization, defining standards that enforce and preserve a single version of truth.
• Facilitate and lead data modeling and design workshops with cross-functional stakeholders including Business, Engineering, BI teams, and System of Record (SOR) SMEs.
• Design and implement event-driven and event-streaming data architectures, including event-based data warehousing approaches.
• Apply modern data design principles including Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Microservices-based architectures, Bounded Contexts, and Data Mesh to enable scalability, agility, and autonomy.
• Perform advanced data analysis and profiling within financial services domains such as accounts, cards, payments, and digital processing.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL for high-performance databases including Oracle Exadata and MongoDB, ensuring efficient physical data models.
• Lead hands-on development and performance tuning in Snowflake, including pipeline development, stored procedures, and secure data sharing.
• Design executive-level presentations and dashboards using PowerPoint and Power BI to communicate complex data insights.
• Perform advanced data analysis using Excel and Splunk, including creation of complex macros to accelerate analytical workflows.
• Conduct reverse and forward engineering for complex data flows; develop detailed source-to-target mappings and process documentation.
• Build automation and monitoring solutions using Python for data ingestion, alerts, interfaces, and data governance enforcement.
• Build and maintain an enterprise data catalog with end-to-end metadata management and lineage; experience with Alation, Collibra, or similar tools is preferred.
• Design and develop data pipelines using tools such as Matillion, SnapLogic, or dbt across cloud and on-premise platforms.
• Leverage industry reference models and frameworks such as BIAN, IBM Banking & Financial Markets Model, and ISO 20022 where applicable.
• Coach, mentor, and guide junior architects and data professionals.
Qualifications & Experience
• 15+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise data architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing.
• 10+ years of data analysis and profiling experience within the financial services industry.
• Deep expertise in data modeling tools (preferably Erwin) and enterprise-scale data architecture.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, Snowflake, Oracle, and modern data platforms.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
• Proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced, highly complex, matrixed environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Demonstrated organizational skills with experience managing multiple priorities and meeting business SLAs.
• Solid understanding of risk, controls, and regulatory considerations within financial services is preferred.
