Role description
Senior Data Modeller / Architect Financial Services | 2 days per week onsite (Swindon) Outside IR35 | 6 Month Contract (starting ASAP) — Most enterprise data platforms fail long before the engineering starts because nobody properly defines the data foundations underneath them. This programme is different. A leading UK financial services organisation is building an enterprise-scale Lakehouse platform from scratch using Databricks, Unity Catalogue, Lakeflow, and Medallion Architecture. The Data Modeller / Architect they hire now will define the modelling standards, architecture patterns, and semantic layer strategy that the entire platform will be built upon. — THE JOB You’ll be one of the earliest senior hires into a brand-new Data Programme team, working directly alongside the Technical Programme Lead and helping shape a multi-year transformation programme that feeds directly into executive-level reporting and strategic decision-making. This isn’t a role where you inherit established governance and documentation. You’ll be defining it. Day one looks like this: analysing poorly documented source systems, designing logical and physical Lakehouse models, establishing modelling conventions within ER Studio, and building the semantic structures that Power BI reporting will consume. Alongside that, you’ll help define how Unity Catalogue operates as the governance and metadata layer across the entire platform. — WHAT YOU’LL NEED • Strong enterprise-level data modelling experience - logical, physical, and conceptual modelling across large-scale, multi-source environments • Hands-on experience designing Lakehouse or Data Warehouse architectures, including medallion architecture and semantic layer design • Experience producing canonical data models, dimensional models, and consumption-layer structures aligned to BI and reporting requirements • Experience working in highly regulated data environments, ideally within financial services like wealth management, investment platforms, or similar • Strong understanding of Databricks architecture, including Delta tables, Unity Catalogue, and governance considerations • Experience with ER Studio or equivalent enterprise modelling tooling, with confidence in establishing repositories, standards, naming conventions, and model management processes from scratch • Confidence operating at both strategic and hands-on levels - defining standards while still producing detailed modelling artefacts yourself • Strong stakeholder communication skills - able to challenge, guide, and translate complex modelling decisions for both technical and non-technical audiences A BONUS IF YOU HAVE • Experience implementing enterprise data governance within Databricks environments • Familiarity with Power BI semantic model design and KPI layer definition • Experience working within Agile delivery environments using Azure DevOps • Experience helping organisations establish enterprise data modelling capability from scratch — Please click the ‘Apply’ button to find out more
