Senior Data Scientist

BIICS, Inc is looking to fill a Sr. Data Scientist position. The position is located in Tallahassee, Florida and work is onsite. Responsibilities: Perform data requests within the Agency. Collaborate with other data scientists, project managers, epidemiologists, and IT staff to select, evaluate, improve, and document tools and systems in order to strengthen Client’s analytic capacity. Use statistical computer scripting and programming languages and other software and tools to digest, manipulate, prepare, augment, evaluate, analyze, summarize, and visualize data. Execute data science projects from conception through implementation, including conducting exploratory data analysis and data mining, developing model specification requirements, and conducting advanced statistical analyses. Provide oral or written summaries of epidemiological analyses to Department staff. Build routine reporting mechanisms such as dashboards on trend analyses, descriptive statistics, and interactive geographic data displays. Participate in analytic projects that require advanced data management, forecasting, and statistical analyses. Explore services that provide data science and forecasting software that will leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence to facilitate earlier detection of public health threats. Implement better aberration detection algorithms to facilitate earlier detection of public health threats. Participate in at least one Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologist’s (CSTE) Subcommittee that aligns with scope of work. Perform additional assignments as requested by the Department. Potential candidate must possess the following: Three (3) years of experience utilizing data programming and data visualization software, such as R, SAS, SQL, Python, Qlik, Tableau, and Power BI. Experience in performing analyses, evaluation of systems, projects, and programs. Three (3) years of experience in data collection and validation, data analysis techniques, data management and processing. Knowledge of data privacy and data security. Three (3) years of experience in data extraction, manipulation, and transformation. Experience in research methodology, data communication and dissemination. Three (3) years of experience developing data systems and data products. Three (3) years of experience in the last five years with the Microsoft Office Suite; including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Doctorate in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or related technical or quantitative field. Two (2) years of experience performing data science-related work. Preferred Requirements: Advanced skills in Excel and power query preferred. Experience working in a specialty area, such as public health or healthcare; and/or working with data visualization software and programming may be desired.
