Role description
Position: Senior DBA A Higher Education client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Database Administrator and Data Integration Specialist to lead efforts in managing, modernizing, and integrating their data platforms. This role combines core SQL Server DBA responsibilitiesβ€”such as optimizing performance, ensuring security, and implementing high availability and disaster recovery strategiesβ€”with leadership in modernization initiatives, including migrating large on-premises databases to cloud-based solutions like Azure SQL and building on-premises big data environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with data orchestration tools such as Dagster, and technologies like Spark, dbt, DuckDB, and Airbyte to design and automate end-to-end data pipelines. Responsibilities include defining architecture upgrades, integrating SQL Server with big data platforms, implementing governance and observability practices, and leveraging DevOps principles for automation and CI/CD deployments. This position requires strong collaboration with data engineers and analysts, mentoring team members on best practices, and driving innovation in data management to support analytics and business goals. Must Haves: β€’ 5+ years of experience as a DBA focusing on SQL Server β€’ Experience managing large datasets such and integrating SQL Server environments with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Apache Spark, and cloud data warehouses like Snowflake. β€’ Experience with security, optimization and maintenance of initiatives β€’ Proven experience working on projects involving data engineer and integration and tools facilitating modernization, orchestration, and observability. β€’ Experience implementing automation for routine tasks using scripting languages (T-SQL, PowerShell, Python) and leveraging DevOps practices like CI/CD. β€’ Experience with data migration of large on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure Data Lake Storage. Plusses: Experience with using data orchestration and observability tools like Dagster to build on premises big data lakes We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized individual with excellent problem solving skills. This position is a 6 month contract role with possibility of extensions, and can pay between $45-55/hour with medical benefits and 401k options offered on contract. If interested, please apply!
