We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Database Engineer to support a mission-critical financial platform for one of our enterprise clients. This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering role focused on optimizing enterprise-scale SQL Server environments while partnering closely with Java engineering teams to improve application performance, scalability, and reliability. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, Java/Spring Boot applications, AWS cloud services, and enterprise database performance tuning. This role requires someone who can troubleshoot across both the application and database layers to ensure high availability and optimal system performance. We are looking for Engineers who can: ● Administer, monitor, and optimize enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments. ● Partner closely with Java engineering teams to improve application and database performance. ● Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, execution plans, and indexing strategies. ● Troubleshoot production performance issues across Java applications, SQL Server, and AWS infrastructure. ● Design and implement database performance improvements for high-volume enterprise applications. ● Configure and maintain SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, replication, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions. ● Monitor database health, capacity, and performance using industry-standard monitoring tools. ● Support enterprise reporting platforms, ETL pipelines, and financial data processing systems. ● Collaborate with architects, developers, infrastructure engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable solutions. ● Develop automation scripts using PowerShell and T-SQL to improve operational efficiency. ● Ensure database security, compliance, governance, and operational best practices. ● Participate in production support, incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications ● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. ● 10+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise production environments. ● Strong experience supporting Java-based enterprise applications. ● Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and JDBC. ● Advanced expertise in: ● SQL Server Administration ● Query Optimization ● Execution Plans ● Indexing Strategies ● Performance Tuning ● Stored Procedures ● High Availability & Disaster Recovery ● Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Replication. ● Strong knowledge of T-SQL and PowerShell scripting. ● Experience supporting AWS-hosted database environments. ● Familiarity with Amazon Redshift, S3, and enterprise ETL processes. ● Strong experience working within UNIX/Linux production environments. ● Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. ● Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across distributed engineering teams. ● Experience within Financial Services, Banking, Capital Markets, Brokerage, or Wealth Management environments. ● Previous experience working for a technology consulting organization. ● Experience supporting enterprise reporting platforms and large-scale transactional systems. ● Exposure to Apache Parquet, AWS Lambda, and cloud-native data solutions. ● Microsoft SQL Server certifications or AWS certifications are a plus.
