Job Title: Senior DataStage Engineer / Platform Administrator
Location: Detroit, MI
About the Role:
We’re seeking an experienced Senior DataStage Engineer with strong platform administration expertise to design, build, and maintain enterprise data integration solutions. This role combines hands-on ETL development with platform-level management, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance of IBM DataStage environments. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical data systems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and optimize ETL workflows using IBM DataStage for complex data integration and transformation needs.
• Administer and maintain the DataStage platform, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
• Monitor system performance, manage user access, and ensure platform stability and security.
• Collaborate with data architects, DBAs, and DevOps teams to optimize data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve platform or ETL-related issues in development and production environments.
• Support continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) processes for DataStage jobs.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for processes, configurations, and best practices.
Qualifications:
• 7+ years of experience in ETL development, with at least 4+ years using IBM DataStage.
• Strong experience in DataStage platform administration on Linux/Unix environments.
• Proficiency in SQL, database design, and working with RDBMS platforms (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, etc.).
• Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting of DataStage jobs and infrastructure.
• Familiarity with scheduling tools (Control-M, Autosys) and version control systems (Git, Bitbucket).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and scripting (Python, Shell, or Ansible).
• Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with IBM Information Server suite (QualityStage, Metadata Workbench).
• Exposure to cloud-based DataStage (DataStage on AWS, Azure, or IBM Cloud).
• Experience integrating DataStage with modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, etc.).
• IBM Certified DataStage Professional or Administrator certification.
