Senior Engineer, Database and OS Developer – Contract – Remote – $65.00 - $78.00/hr

Our client is seeking a remote Senior Engineer, Database and OS Developer.
Role Description
Development & Enforcement
• Develop and enforce standards for database connectivity validation, OS configuration, and runtime dependency readiness.
• Ensure adherence to enterprise guidelines across GCP-hosted platforms, GKE environments, and secure healthcare systems.
• Create reusable scripts and validation frameworks for connectivity and system health checks.
Collaboration & Expertise
• Partner with DBAs, platform engineers, infrastructure teams, DevSecOps, and application owners to resolve complex deployment blockers.
• Participate in technical deep dives and provide clear recommendations, risks, and actionable next steps.
• Act as a subject matter expert in database connectivity and OS-level troubleshooting.
Analysis & Configuration
• Validate and configure:
• Database connectivity (Oracle, Postgres)
• Network paths, DNS, firewall rules, and certificates
• IAM/IAP access patterns and service authentication
• Analyze issues across:
• Application configuration
• OS-level dependencies
• Database access and schema readiness
• Support configuration of Java/Spring Boot runtime dependencies, environment variables, and containerized workloads.
Operational Support
• Troubleshoot Linux/Unix systems, including:
• Processes, services, file systems, permissions
• Networking, ports, DNS resolution, and certificates
• Support application deployment, smoke testing, and checkout cycles.
• Provide production-readiness validation for applications migrating to cloud platforms.
• Assist with batch processing, scheduler dependencies, and legacy system modernization.
Mentorship & Training
• Guide team members and partner teams on:
• Best practices for database connectivity and OS troubleshooting
• Dependency validation techniques
• Develop clear runbooks and documentation to eliminate reliance on tribal knowledge.
• Share knowledge on secure, compliant healthcare system operations.
Innovation and Research
• Explore and recommend improvements in:
• Database connectivity validation approaches
• Automation of OS and dependency checks
• Evaluate emerging tools and techniques for:
• Cloud database access (e.g., IAP tunneling, bastion patterns)
• Monitoring and troubleshooting in distributed systems
Strategic Planning
• Support enterprise initiatives for cloud modernization across related workstreams.
• Contribute to planning for:
• Application migration waves
• Database readiness and dependency validation strategies
• Ensure alignment with security, auditability, and compliance requirements in healthcare environments.
Skills & Requirements
• 5+ years of experience in: Database engineering, systems engineering, application infrastructure, or production support
• 5+ years of Linux/Unix experience in enterprise environments
• 4+ years supporting: Oracle and/or Postgres database connectivity
• Strong expertise in: OS troubleshooting (processes, networking, DNS, certificates, permissions)
• Database connectivity (JDBC, drivers, SSL/TLS, connection pooling)
• Hands-on scripting experience in: Shell, Python, and SQL
• Proven ability to troubleshoot across: OS, database, network, and application layers
• Bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field OR equivalent practical experience
Pluses, nice to haves
• Experience with: GCP, GKE, Istio, Cloud SQL
• Oracle DB@GCP, RMAN, HA/DR concepts
• Redis, Kafka, and distributed data systems
• Background in application migration or modernization, especially in regulated environments
• Familiarity with: IAP tunneling, bastion hosts, privileged access workflows
• Experience supporting: Batch processing, schedulers, and legacy system transformations
• Knowledge of healthcare platform delivery, including: Security, auditability, and compliance requirements
