Role description
Senior Engineer – Integration & API Architecture We are seeking a senior staff-level engineer to lead integration architecture and API enablement across multiple workstreams. This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable operating with a high level of autonomy, navigating ambiguity, and independently figuring things out in a fast-evolving environment. Key Responsibilities • Own the API and integration intake pipeline, ensuring consistent intake, triage, governance, and execution across multiple workstreams. • Define and enforce enterprise API contract standards for REST and event-driven integrations while establishing scalable integration patterns across the organization. • Design and implement secure boundary controls, including tokenization of PII/NPI to prevent sensitive data exposure in lower environments. • Design and support synchronous and event-driven integration architectures using modern API and messaging technologies. • Configure and manage API gateway and iPaaS/orchestration platforms such as Gravitee and Workato. Experience with comparable platforms, including Apigee and MuleSoft, is preferred. • Design and support event streaming pipelines using AWS MSK/Kafka and contribute to workflow orchestration using Temporal or similar durable execution frameworks. • Ensure API and integration contracts align with enterprise canonical data models while partnering closely with data architecture teams. • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, bringing real-world implementation experience and pragmatic decision-making to help engineering teams overcome technical challenges and deliver scalable solutions. Qualifications • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale API ecosystems and integration architectures. • Deep understanding of API contract design, including REST, AsyncAPI, and API governance models. • Strong experience with API gateways, including policies, rate limiting, access control, and workflow-based iPaaS/orchestration platforms. • Expertise in OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and modern authentication and authorization frameworks. • Experience implementing data protection controls such as tokenization using Protegrity, TokenEx, or equivalent technologies. • Strong hands-on experience with event-driven architecture, including Kafka or AWS MSK. • Comfortable operating with minimal oversight, establishing structure where none exists, and driving technical initiatives through practical implementation experience. • Preferred: Experience with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration frameworks; enterprise data modeling, canonical/logical data models, or master data management; and AI agent orchestration technologies such as LangGraph. • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship (U.S. Citizens and Green Card holders preferred).
