Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract
When you join USS, the size and scale of our pension scheme means you will have numerous opportunities to learn and develop your career. Given our size you'll have real autonomy and influence as you collaborate closely with a wide-ranging team of experts.
About the role
In your role as Senior Investment Data Analyst, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to be responsible for establishing, leading, and delivering high-quality data analysis across investment data. The role combines hands-on analytical expertise with the opportunity to shape, support, and lead the advancement of data capabilities across the organisation.
You will play a key role in the technology and data transformation agenda, embedding new and enhanced data analysis capabilities, driving improved data usage, and supporting the organisationβs strategic data objectives.
What you will be doing
As a trusted part of the Operations team you will be responsible for:
β’ Shaping and establishing data analysis capabilities, formalising the activities within the Data Oversight team and the Data Strategy & Architecture Programme.
β’ Leading the in-scope data analysis, managing priorities in conjunction with the Programme and Business-As-Usual data initiatives.
β’ Contributing to programme delivery, particularly during implementation stages, helping to analyse, build, validate, and structure data in platforms such as an enterprise data lakehouse.
β’ Translating business requirements into data requirements, and technical specifications, and support the testing of deployments within the data lakehouse.
β’ Supporting the implementation of mastering systems, such as security master platforms and Investment Books of Records (IBOR), contributing to configuration, data model alignment, and integration into the wider architecture.
β’ Evaluating market data inputs and usage across asset classes, including reference data, pricing, indices, to ensure completeness, quality, and efficient usage across the business, and where required, work with developers to integrate them into new platforms as part of the transition from legacy systems.
β’ Supporting the migration of data from current to the target state architecture and operating model, performing data analysis, mapping back-to-front data sources, creating data flow diagrams and building out the data catalogue.
β’ Conduct detailed market data optimisation activities, reviewing data usage patterns, identifying redundancies, and recommending data sets that can be rationalised or replaced.
β’ Interrogating large amounts of data, assessing current-state vs. target-state data models, identifying gaps or discrepancies and collaborating with technology teams to resolve structural and quality differences.
β’ Supporting members of the Data Oversight team as required, contributing to data governance, data architecture, data quality and broader data management activities.
β’ Building a strong relationship with USS colleagues and develop close working relationships with third party service partners.
About you
We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they don't tick every box, if you're excited about working for us and have most of the skills or experience we're looking for, then please apply, regardless of whether you meet all the requirements outlined in this profile.
To be successful in the role you will have:
β’ Experience working in Investment Management, with a solid understanding of investment data structures, investment book of records (IBOR) concepts, market data sources and how these are used across front-to-back investment data lifecycle.
β’ Hands-on experience with data mastering platforms, ideally having worked on the implementation or operations of security masters.
β’ Strong understanding of market data and financial datasets, including knowledge of different asset classes and familiarity with data providers and services.
β’ Practical experience in data quality processes, data controls, and familiarity with data governance and data architecture best practice.
β’ Analytical mindset with high attention to detail, capable of interrogating complex data sets, identifying issues, and proposing practical solutions.
β’ Experience working with modern data platforms, ideally exposure to data lakehouse architectures or similar technologies.
β’ Foundational data modelling skills, and experience constructing data flow diagrams, mapping sources, and understanding back-to-front system architecture.
β’ Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills, able to work effectively with both technical and business teams.
β’ Experience working within large programmes or change initiatives, ideally contributing to system implementations or major data transformation projects.
