Xcelnet Systems Inc. is seeking a Senior Power BI Data Visualization Lead who is motivated by variety, is seeking a challenging environment for professional growth, and is interested in supporting large information technology projects for one of our clients in the northeast.
The Sr. Power BI Data Visualization Lead will serve as the primary architect and strategist for developing advanced business intelligence solutions that support operational, regulatory, and performance reporting across the utility enterprise. They will not only guide and oversee the development team but also actively contribute as a hands-on developer to ensure project requirements are met.
Location:
This position is located in Newark, NJ. Ideal candidate must be local to the area and able to go into the office periodically when needed. If not local, they must be willing to travel as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of Power BI dashboards supporting enterprise initiatives such as asset performance, outage management, AMI analytics, and regulatory compliance reporting.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders—operations, IT, finance, and regulatory teams—to define requirements and deliver data solutions aligned with utility performance metrics and KPIs.
• Develop efficient Power BI data models, DAX calculations, and Power Query transformations that ensure accuracy, scalability, and performance.
• Integrate Power BI with enterprise data sources such as Maximo, ADMS/OMS, GIS, CIS, and data lakes to enable comprehensive reporting and analytics.
• Establish and maintain visualization standards, governance frameworks, and version control across enterprise dashboards.
• Support the automation of recurring reports and dashboards to improve efficiency and data reliability.
• Mentor junior BI developers and analysts, fostering a culture of data literacy and self-service analytics across the organization.
• Present high-impact visual insights and performance reports to executives and key stakeholders to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Stay current with Power BI feature releases, AI-driven visualization enhancements, and emerging analytics practices in the utility industry.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with 9+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data visualization, including 5+ years developing in Microsoft Power BI. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proven experience working within the utility sector (electric, gas, or water), supporting operational or regulatory reporting.
• Expertise in SQL, DAX, and data modeling with strong understanding of relational databases and data warehousing principles.
• Familiarity with utility enterprise systems such as Maximo, GIS (ESRI, GE Smallworld, G/Tech), ADMS/OMS, CIS, and SCADA preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to deliver actionable insights.
• Strong communication, data storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Utilities experience
• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300) or equivalent certification.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric for data integration and pipeline development.
