Job Title: Principal Risk Analyst
Location: Remote (Tualatin, OR - PST working hours)
Job Duration: 8+m Contract
Primary Skills:
β’ 8+ years of experience in an analytical role within the energy industry, wholesale power and/or gas markets or quantitative trading or in an academic setting with direct application to energy markets.
β’ Experience working with Navigating ambiguity
β’ Endur experience
β’ Advanced knowledge of risk management concepts.
β’ Demonstrate seasoned professional maturity and sound judgment, including the ability to navigate ambiguous requests, recognize when to seek guidance, leverage subject matter experts across the organization, and prepare and deliver clear, well-structured communications for senior and executive audiences.
β’ Have broad experience in North American energy markets and quantitative risk analysis, with a focus on power, natural gas, and renewables.
β’ Hold a BS or MS in engineering, statistics, a scientific discipline, economics, finance, or a related field.
β’ Bring 8+ years of experience in a analytical role within the energy industry or in an academic setting with direct application to energy markets. Experience in wholesale power and/or gas markets or quantitative trading is preferred.
β’ Have expertise in at least one of the following: time series analysis, advanced regression/econometrics, or advanced optimization techniques using commercial solvers.
β’ Have experience with Production Cost Modeling.
β’ Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
β’ Be able to communicate and collaborate effectively with teams outside of risk management
Preferred Experience:
β’ Experience in wholesale power and/or gas markets or quantitative trading is preferred.
β’ Experience with Endur ETRM is a plus
β’ Advanced financial modeling skills and experience using Microsoft Excel, or Python
β’ Expert knowledge of enterprise/business acumen
β’ Expert written and oral communication skills
Responsibilities:
β’ Support Power Operations Risk Management teams, including running and analyzing operational reports. Collaborate with Power Operations to assess trading risk limits, evaluate exposures, develop new quantitative models, validate or enhance existing models, and support internal partners in applying these models for effective risk analysis and decision making.
β’ Run production reporting processes to ensure smooth and efficient flow of End of Day.
β’ Troubleshoot production reporting systems and learn to identify communicate and track the status of issues when they come up.
β’ Suggest improvement to existing operational systems based on knowledge of energy market risk systems and End of Day functions.
β’ Provide analytical support for trading, portfolio management, origination, energy market risk, credit risk, and finance. Translate qualitative insights from commercial teams into quantitative terms to improve performance.
β’ Learn and support quantitative approaches to evaluate the benefits, costs, risks, and risk mitigation strategies associated with energy infrastructure.
β’ Support new and review existing complex valuation and pricing models for structured products such as tolling agreements, PPAs, full requirements/load following deals, shaped products, revenue puts, exotic options (swaptions, basket options, look back options, heat rate options), weather derivatives, and unit contingency products.
β’ Learn, apply and interpret risk metric models, including Value at Risk (VaR), Mark to Market, and Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR).
β’ Support statistical analysis and quantitative tools for trading and hedging, including commodity data modeling and ad hoc analysis based on short term market developments.
β’ Communicate modeling methodologies and results clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, emphasizing practical business implications and the βwhyβ behind the analysis.
β’ Make suggestions in alignment with the existing Risk Management Policy and Procedure framework.
