Role description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Shopify Plus Developer to lead the design, development, and optimization of high traffic Shopify Plus storefronts. The role combines deep Shopify Plus platform expertise with full stack development skills to build custom themes, integrations, and apps that deliver outstanding user experiences, performance, and conversion. You will collaborate with product, design, and operations teams, drive technical best practices, and mentor other developers.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Lead end-to-end development of Shopify Plus stores, including theme architecture, custom Liquid templates, and frontend performance optimization.
β’ Build and maintain custom storefront features using JavaScript (ES6+), Liquid, HTML5, and CSS3/Sass, ensuring responsive, accessible, and high performing UI.
β’ Implement and integrate backend services, apps, and third-party APIs using Shopify REST and GraphQL (Admin and Storefront APIs).
β’ Develop custom apps and integrations, working across the full stack to extend Shopify Plus functionality and automate business workflows.
β’ Optimize site speed, SEO, and conversion through performance profiling, asset optimization, and progressive enhancement techniques.
β’ Manage deployments and release pipelines using Git, Shopify CLI, Theme Kit, and CI/CD tools; ensure reliable rollback and staging workflows.
β’ Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, write automated tests where appropriate, and maintain clear technical documentation.
β’ Work closely with designers and product managers to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions and deliver on project timelines.
β’ Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mid and junior developers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
β’ Support clients and stakeholders with technical recommendations, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of Shopify Plus stores.
Qualifications
β’ 5+ years of professional ecommerce development experience, with a strong focus on Shopify and Shopify Plus projects.
β’ Proven Shopify Plus Developer experience building and launching enterprise or high traffic storefronts.
β’ Expert knowledge of Liquid templating and theme development best practices.
β’ Strong JavaScript skills (ES6+); experience with modern frameworks (e.g., React) a plus for headless/Hydrogen projects.
β’ Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, and preprocessors such as Sass or Less.
β’ Experience with Shopify REST and GraphQL APIs, app development, and integrating third-party services.
β’ Familiarity with developer tools and workflows: Shopify CLI, Theme Kit, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
β’ Demonstrated ability to optimize site performance, accessibility, and cross browser compatibility.
β’ Excellent problem solving skills, clear communication, and experience collaborating with cross functional teams.
β’ Portfolio or code samples showcasing Shopify Plus projects; degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
