Role description
The mission
Food production accounts for close to a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. Foodsteps works with major UK food retailers, manufacturers, and caterers to help them measure and reduce the environmental impact of their products. We combine a data platform with a hands-on Solutions team that ensures our products are deployed correctly for customers.
The role
This is a mid-level delivery role on our Solutions team.
The role is 1 year fixed term, with the possibility to extend.
You will own project management and technical delivery with clients, as well as client relationships for smaller or junior clients.
On your deliveries, you will be building and maintaining data pipelines, running quality checks, and producing emissions-ready outputs.
You will also be the main technical contact for those clients, so you need to be comfortable talking through data requirements and issues with client teams and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.
The role sits within a small team. You will work closely with a Solutions Manager and alongside specialist product engineers and scientific LCA researchers and oversee the work of delivery support teams. Our office is based in Aldgate, London and the role is Hybrid
What Youβll Do
β’ Explore and interrogate large, messy datasets and communicate what you find clearly
β’ Own end-to-end technical delivery for a set of client accounts from raw data ingestion through to final outputs, using a combination of internal tools, Python and SQL,
β’ Run client-facing sessions including data reviews, training, and progress updates
β’ Write and maintain documentation covering data contracts, transformation logic, and quality decisions
β’ Create version-controlled analysis that is reproducible, and easy for others to pick up
β’ Support junior team members and contribute to their development
β’ Learn about and contribute to the non-technical delivery aspects of our sustainability solutions including corporate and product level carbon footprinting.
What Weβre Looking For
β’ Experience in a data-focused delivery or technical consultancy role
β’ Strong Python and SQL skills; able to build and maintain data transformation and analysis scripts without close supervision
β’ Used to working with incomplete or inconsistent data and making reasonable, documented decisions about it
β’ Confident presenting technical work to non-technical audiences
β’ Able to run several workstreams at once without dropping detail
β’ A passion for food systems, supply chains and sustainability
β’ Experience with Prompt Engineering or utilising AI to automate internal processes
Nice to have
β’ Experience in Sustainability Industry
β’ Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) data or carbon emissions factors
β’ Experience in food manufacturing, retail, or FMCG supply chains
β’ Comfortable with Git and reproducible workflows
