Top Requirements:
• 5+ years of SmallTalk engineering experience
• Ability to package and deploy SmallTalk applications to non‑production environments
• Strong understanding of OOP techniques and design principles
• Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server (nice to have)
• Strong communication, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to multi‑task and pick up complex business logic quickly
• Recent engineering experience (not long gaps or PM‑only backgrounds)
Plusses / Nice to Have:
• Full-stack Java experience (especially backend)
• Experience with modernization/migration efforts from legacy SmallTalk to Java

Job Summary:
The Specialty Software Engineer 3 will support and enhance legacy SmallTalk applications used for credit card servicing in call centers, while also contributing to long‑term modernization efforts migrating to Java. This senior-level engineer will work on a Scrum team, completing story‑based development in two‑week sprints, supporting existing SmallTalk applications, and participating in modernization and backend enhancements. The role requires deep SmallTalk expertise, strong OOP understanding, and the ability to quickly learn complex business functions within enterprise systems.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities:
• Develop, maintain, and enhance legacy SmallTalk applications
• Package and deploy SmallTalk builds in non‑production environments
• Work within Scrum teams, completing story-based assignments in sprints
• Support modernization efforts transitioning legacy SmallTalk systems to Java
• Troubleshoot system issues, identify root causes, and propose solutions
• Document processes, logic, and technical designs
• Collaborate with developers, testers, BA/PO, and modernization teams
• Participate in vulnerability management and remediation activities
• Assist with backend logic improvements; optional support on React UI if needed
• Learn business logic and credit card servicing workflows to effectively support the platform
