Job Summary:
The Smart Contract Engineer will join BNY’s Digital Assets Engineering team to design, develop, and secure smart contracts that power tokenization, custody, and settlement solutions. This role works at the intersection of blockchain technology and regulated financial services, ensuring that digital asset workflows are secure, scalable, and compliant. This role is for our New York City office and a hybrid schedule with 4 days per week onsite
Key Responsibilities:
• Smart Contract Development – Design and implement secure, efficient smart contracts for tokenization and digital asset workflows.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with product, architecture, and enterprise systems teams to integrate smart contracts with EVM-compatible chains.
• Code Review & Security – Conduct code reviews, enforce best practices, and maintain compliance with internal security standards.
• Automated Testing & Deployment – Implement automated testing frameworks to ensure robust and error-free smart contract deployments.
• Cybersecurity & Risk Management – Work closely with cybersecurity teams and external vendors to identify and address vulnerabilities.
• Performance Optimization – Ensure scalability and high-volume transaction performance across all digital asset systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• 3+ years of development experience in blockchain and smart contracts
• Proficiency in Solidity and smart contract development
• Experience with Ethereum, Hyperledger Besu, and other EVM-based platforms
• Strong understanding of tokenization standards (e.g., EIP-7702, EIP-712, ERC-1451)
• Knowledge of cryptographic principles, MPC, and secure key management
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
Preferred Experience & Competencies:
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments
• Integration with custody and settlement systems
• Agile development practices and DevSecOps experience
• Certifications such as C4 Ethereum Developer or Cyfrin Smart Contract
• Familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, and enterprise software integrations
