Software Database Engineer (Contract)
Please note that this is a contract role providing services to Microsoft through external staffing partners of Allegis Global Solutions. If you are selected for this role, you will be employed by AGS and will not be an employee of Microsoft.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced professional to join a dynamic Data Pipeline team where you will be at the forefront of modern data engineering technology. In this role, you will design and build cutting-edge data pipelines and analytics systems that power critical business decisions across the organization. You will work with state-of-the-art technologies including Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Explorer to create scalable lakehouse and warehouse solutions that process both real-time and batch data feeds. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with business, design, test, and development teams to shape data capture strategies that drive test-driven methodologies and foster a data-driven culture. The ideal candidate will bring meticulous attention to detail, modern engineering practices, and a passion for building high-quality data architecture at scale.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead technical writing team goals, planning, and project initiatives
• Write and edit project documentation to ensure clarity, conciseness, and ease of understanding
• Design and implement scalable ETL processes for data movement and quality assurance
• Build and maintain data pipelines using modern cloud-based tools and platforms
• Develop documentation and knowledge sharing processes to maintain organizational efficiency
• Organize documentation in an intuitive and accessible manner
• Serve as an advocate for knowledge sharing initiatives across multiple teams
• Research and advance sharing initiatives and solutions to address current challenges
• Create and support large-scale analytics systems for lakehouse and warehouse environments
• Process and manage data feeds in both real-time and batch formats
Requirements
• 5 plus years of experience with SQL
• 5 plus years of experience designing and implementing scalable ETL processes including data movement and quality tools
• 3 plus years of experience with modern Big Data Analytics using Data Lake, Spark, and formats like Parquet
• 2 plus years of experience building cloud hosted data systems with Azure highly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Advanced SQL proficiency
• ETL design and implementation expertise
• Big Data Analytics using Data Lake, Spark, and Parquet formats
• Cloud-hosted data systems development, particularly in Azure
• Azure Data Factory experience
• Azure Synapse Analytics knowledge
• Databricks platform expertise
• Azure Data Explorer and Kusto familiarity
• Delta lake format experience
• AI and ML application to data engineering use cases
• Feature engineering and feature store development
• Model training and serving dataset preparation
• Data pipeline construction for modern AI applications including LLM and RAG
• Privacy-aware data access and governance
• Technical documentation and knowledge management
• Cross-functional collaboration and communication
