Solr Consultant

Job Title: Solr Consultant (Search Engineer) Location: Remote Experience: 10+ Years Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced Solr Consultant / Search Engineer with strong expertise in enterprise search platforms and backend development. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of search domain concepts, hands-on experience with Apache Solr (or similar technologies), and solid Java backend development skills. This role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable, high-performance search solutions to enhance user experience across digital platforms. Key Responsibilities: • Design and implement scalable search solutions using Apache Solr / Lucene or equivalent platforms • Develop and optimize search functionalities including indexing, querying, ranking, faceting, and relevancy tuning • Integrate search engines with backend services using Java (Spring Boot / Microservices architecture) • Analyze search performance and implement improvements for speed, accuracy, and scalability • Work with large datasets and optimize indexing pipelines • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, UI/UX, data engineering) to enhance search experience • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to search performance and data inconsistencies • Evaluate and implement modern search technologies such as Google Vertex AI Search or Constructor platform • Ensure best practices in search relevance, scalability, and fault tolerance Required Qualifications: • 10+ years of IT experience with strong backend engineering background • Hands-on experience with Apache Solr / Lucene (must-have) • Strong understanding of search domain concepts (indexing, tokenization, ranking algorithms, relevancy tuning) • Proficiency in Java development, preferably with Spring Boot • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs • Familiarity with microservices architecture • Experience working with distributed systems and large-scale data environments • Strong debugging, performance tuning, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with Google Vertex AI Search or Constructor.io • Knowledge of Elasticsearch is a plus • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure) • Exposure to eCommerce / retail search implementations • Understanding of AI/ML-based search or recommendation systems Soft Skills: • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills • Ability to work independently in a remote environment • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset
