Role description
SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT - Snowflake
Location: Edinburgh, United Kingdom (Mostly remote; travel to Edinburgh MAY be needed a couple times a MONTH).
Start date: January
Contract Length: 1 year
Contract hours: Originally 20 hours - this will increase with the addition of new projects.
Our teams of Solutions Consultants demonstrate technical leadership daily by writing code, designing scalable architectures, and guiding customers through strategic decisions to achieve impactful results. We advise everyone from hands-on engineers to senior executives on how best to utilize Snowflake to drive long-term success. Our Solution Architects thrive in dynamic environments and operate on the cutting edge of modern data technology.
AS A SNOWFLAKE SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT, YOU WILL:
• Directly engage with customers individually or as part of a technical delivery team.
• Oversee, guide, and optimize customer implementations of the Snowflake platform.
• Demonstrate technical leadership through hands-on coding, architectural design, and prescriptive implementation recommendations.
• Act as a trusted advisor to customer executive leadership, providing technical thought leadership and solution strategies.
• Extract business requirements and translate them into scalable, well-architected solutions.
• Develop forward-looking architectures, data roadmaps, and platform modernization strategies.
• Leverage best practices to reduce risk and improve customer outcomes across cloud data platforms.
• Decompose future-state goals into actionable, executable delivery plans.
• Collaborate with Snowflake GTM and product teams to ensure alignment with Snowflake’s vision and capabilities.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Provide architectural guidance on lakehouse governance, including Iceberg table formats and interoperable data layers.
• Design and implement data product architectures to support reusability, governance, and value creation across domains.
• Advise customers on leveraging Snowflake Marketplace for data sharing, monetisation, and ecosystem integration.
• Lead and deliver migrations from traditional platforms such as Teradata, SAS, and Hadoop into Snowflake’s cloud-native architecture.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent practical experience.
• 8–11 years of experience as a Solutions Consultant, Data Architect, DBA, or Data Engineer.
• 8+ years of technical consulting experience within large-scale enterprise environments.
• Proven experience leading complex analytics or platform modernisation projects at scale.
• Hands-on implementation and operational experience with Snowflake-centric architectures.
• Deep understanding of the end-to-end data analytics lifecycle: ingestion/ETL, data platform design, processing, transformation, governance, BI, and analytics.
• Familiarity with industry-standard BI, ETL/ELT, and orchestration tools.
• Hands-on coding experience with SQL, Python, Java, and/or Spark for building and maintaining analytics solutions.
• Strong experience with large-scale database technologies (Snowflake, Netezza, Exadata, Teradata, Greenplum, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to implement data security controls and governance within Snowflake.
Additional Experience:
• Practical expertise with Iceberg or other open table formats, and experience designing lakehouse governance frameworks.
• Experience defining and delivering data products, including discoverability, ownership, contracts, and domain-aligned architectures.
• Experience leveraging or integrating with the Snowflake Marketplace or similar data-exchange ecosystems.
• Experience planning and executing large-scale migrations from Teradata, SAS, and/or Hadoop to cloud data platforms.
A STRONG CANDIDATE WILL ALSO HAVE:
• Experience working within the services organization of a product-led company.
• Experience in a technical leadership position overseeing delivery teams or strategic initiatives.
• Industry vertical expertise (e.g., Media, Financial Services, Healthcare, Telecom, Retail).
• Application development experience with modern frameworks.
• Certifications: AWS/GCP/Azure cloud certifications, Snowflake SnowPro Advanced certifications.
