Role description
About Wolf Games Wolf Games is building the platform for generative entertainment universes β€” living, ever-expanding worlds where creators, players, and AI collaborate in real time. Our first universe, Public Eye, turns everyone into a detective. Across a suite of crime-solving games, players collect evidence, crack cases, and rise through the ranks of a connected detective program. We’re creating a future where game development and player experience are tightly connected through intelligent systems that learn, adapt, and surprise. About the Role We’re looking for a Principal Data Scientist to be the founding leader and strategist of our data discipline. This is a company-defining role for someone who can design and specify the entire data ecosystem from the ground up, shaping how Wolf uses data to inform creative decisions and power the next generation of our generative AI systems. You will own the end-to-end data strategy from ingestion to insight. You’ll design and specify the scalable, real-time infrastructure that lets us understand our players, our games, and our distribution channels at a deep level. You’ll connect gameplay telemetry, user profiles, and engagement data to insights that improve not just player experience but the models and tools our teams use to create. This isn’t a traditional analytics role. You will pioneer the systems that go beyond dashboards and retention curves. You’ll be the key architect of the feedback loops where data directly trains, evaluates, and refines our generative AI systems, testing and improving gameplay and content. You will report to the CEO and work closely with engineering, product, and creative leadership to: β€’ Own, define, and guide the implementation of our data collection strategy and governance across all titles and platforms. β€’ Design and specify a scalable, real-time pipeline for ingesting, processing, and analyzing gameplay and engagement events which will be built by the engineering team. β€’ Build the models and specify the data platforms that translate raw player data into actionable insights for both humans (designers, producers) and machines (AI training and evaluation). β€’ Design and own the company-wide experimentation frameworks that help us measure fun, engagement, and narrative effectiveness. β€’ Partner with executive and creative leadership to identify trends in player behavior across distribution channels and surface strategic, high-level learnings that guide where and how we launch. β€’ Shape how Wolf Games measures success β€” help us understand and act on the signals that capture what keeps players coming back. β€’ Act as the strategic authority for all data systems, setting standards for code, tools, and infrastructure, and mentoring future team members as the team grows. What You'll Bring β€’ 10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, and machine learning, with a demonstrable track record of leading data science initiatives from concept to production. At least 5+ years in gaming, media, or interactive entertainment is strongly preferred. β€’ Deep expertise working across structured and unstructured data. Proven experience designing and consulting on event taxonomies and leading behavioral analytics frameworks for digital experiences, ideally from scratch. β€’ Expert-level, hands-on experience and strategic understand of modern data architectures (e.g., real-time streaming with Kafka/Kinesis, data lakes/warehouses like Snowflake/BigQuery, feature stores, MLOps pipelines). β€’ A proven track record of applying machine learning or AI techniques to production systems using real-world user data β€” for personalization, content recommendation, or automated content evaluation. β€’ The ability to own the entire data lifecycle, from high-level architectural strategy down to implementation and iteration. β€’ Curiosity about games, player psychology, and generative AI β€” and a desire to work at their intersection. β€’ Exceptional quantitative and communication skills: you can influence technical and creative executives and drive better decisions with data-backed storytelling. β€’ A true ownership and builder’s mindset: you’re excited to define best practices, select and implement tools, and help shape our long-term data and AI strategy from the ground up. Why Wolf Games β€’ We are a small, creative, and collaborative team that values curiosity, craftsmanship, and experimentation. We believe small wins lead to big wins β€” and that great data, like great stories, can change how people experience the world.
