Position Title: Data Center Engineer
Location: Washington, DC (Onsite)
Clearance Requirements: Active Top-Secret Clearance (TS/SCI preferred)
Position Status: Direct Hire / Full-Time
Pay Rate: $170,000 - $230,000 annually
Position Description: We are seeking an experienced Data Center Infrastructure Engineer II to support mission-critical federal infrastructure operations in a highly secure environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure professional with deep expertise in enterprise data centers, virtualization, networking, storage, and high-availability operations.
You will play a key role in designing, building, optimizing, and sustaining secure data center environments supporting critical government missions. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced operational settings, enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, and can contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up.
This position is primarily onsite in Washington, DC, with occasional local travel as needed. Candidates must be comfortable working in secure operational environments and supporting essential continuity operations.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Design, implement, and maintain enterprise data center infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations
β’ Manage and optimize servers, virtualization platforms, storage systems, networking, power, and environmental systems
β’ Support high-availability infrastructure operations through monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and fault isolation
β’ Collaborate with infrastructure engineers and cross-functional technical teams to execute data center buildouts and modernization initiatives
β’ Perform capacity planning, lifecycle management, and infrastructure performance optimization
β’ Identify operational risks, infrastructure constraints, and resiliency gaps while recommending mitigation strategies
β’ Participate in Agile planning sessions, technical discussions, and infrastructure improvement initiatives
β’ Ensure infrastructure changes are implemented safely with minimal operational disruption
β’ Apply security and operational best practices within highly secure federal environments
β’ Maintain strong ownership, accountability, and technical excellence in supporting critical operations
Required Skills/Education:
β’ Active Top Secret Clearance required (TS/SCI eligibility preferred)
β’ 5+ years of recent hands-on experience in enterprise or mission-critical data center environments
β’ Strong experience with data center operations including servers, storage, networking, virtualization, power, and environmental systems
β’ Hands-on expertise with VMware environments; VMware VCP-DCV certification (or equivalent data center platform certification) is required
β’ Experience supporting high-availability infrastructure environments, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response
β’ Knowledge of infrastructure resiliency, scalability, and operational best practices
β’ Experience with capacity planning, infrastructure optimization, and lifecycle management
β’ Ability to work independently in fast-paced, operationally critical environments
β’ Strong problem-solving and communication skills with a collaborative mindset
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred
β’ DoD 8140 certification preferred (Security+, Cloud+, SSCP, CASP+, CISSP, etc.); candidates willing to obtain Security+ after hire will be considered
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Experience supporting federal government or DoD environments
β’ Experience working in air-gapped or highly secure infrastructure environments
β’ Familiarity with geographically dispersed data center operations
β’ Experience supporting infrastructure modernization and deployment projects
β’ Ability to thrive in hands-on operational and engineering responsibilities
