Statistician
Location: Houston, TX 77030 (Hybrid)

Overview
A large-scale research and analytics organization is seeking a Statistician to support a portfolio of statewide programs at the intersection of advanced analytics, applied education research, and emerging AI/ML technologies. The Statistician is a collaborative and analytically rigorous professional with a demonstrated ability to transform complex data into actionable insights. This individual applies scientific and statistical principles with precision, formulates and tests hypotheses systematically, and maintains an objective perspective to produce valid, reliable findings.
The ideal candidate can effectively communicate complex analytical methods, assumptions, and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Essential Functions
β’ Support faculty, researchers, and program teams with statistical and data science expertise across a variety of projects, including education research, workforce analytics, program evaluation, applied statistics, and policy research.
β’ Develop and maintain analytical models using diverse educational, workforce, administrative, survey, and assessment datasets.
β’ Apply advanced statistical and analytical techniques including predictive analytics, data mining, time series analysis, multivariate regression, classification methods, statistical process control, and optimization approaches.
β’ Perform as a results-oriented problem solver who can synthesize complex information, identify patterns, select appropriate methodologies, and develop practical solutions.
β’ Collaborate effectively with researchers, data stewards, software developers, IT teams, analysts, and subject matter experts.
β’ Assess the impact of data architecture, database design, and data warehousing processes on analysis and reporting.
β’ Design and produce high-quality dashboards, data visualizations, graphical reports, and other analytical products that communicate findings clearly and effectively.
β’ Support the development and maintenance of reproducible analytical workflows and reporting systems.
β’ Contribute to research manuscripts, technical reports, grant proposals, methods documentation, and related scholarly products as appropriate.
β’ Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Masterβs degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, Education Research, Engineering, Informatics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
Work Experience
Three (3) years of experience as a Statistician, Data Scientist, Research Analyst, Senior Analyst, or related analytical role, with demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
β’ Proficiency with statistical software, databases, and programming languages used for data preparation, storage, transformation, analysis, and visualization. Examples include SAS, R, Python, SQL, STATA, SPSS, MATLAB, Tableau, Excel, and other analytical or big data tools.
β’ Experience working with a variety of data formats and sources, including relational databases, XML, JSON, CSV, text-based data, clickstream data, survey data, and longitudinal datasets.
β’ Strong written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
β’ Experience with or strong interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning methods and their application to research and analytical problems.
β’ Familiarity with cloud-based technologies, particularly AWS, or demonstrated ability to quickly develop proficiency.
β’ Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analytical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
β’ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Physical Requirements
β’ Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
