Storage Automation SME

Role: Storage Automation SME Location: Sheffield/Birmingham/London ( 3 Days Hybrid) Job Description: The Enterprise Services Storage Platform team is responsible for managing large-scale data storage environments, including file, block, backup, and archive services across multiple regions. The team focuses on engineering and automation across storage platforms, supporting product integration, migrations, and adoption within a DevOps framework. This role involves building, managing, and enhancing enterprise infrastructure services that enable DevOps practices. Key Responsibilities • Certify, test, and develop new features and platforms across SAN infrastructure, including Dell PowerMax/Vmax-3/XtremIO, Pure FlashArray, HPE Primera/Alletra, and Cirrus DMS, using Broadcom and Cisco SAN switches/directors and iSCSI connectivity • Develop automation solutions covering support, installation, provisioning, migration management, and compliance • Deliver enterprise platform services across UNIX/Linux, Windows, and storage systems for secure data storage and analysis • Support developer services that enable standardized platform delivery, including virtualisation, ALM, development engineering, and cloud platforms • Build cloud-based infrastructure platforms and deliver infrastructure and platform capabilities “as-a-Service” in collaboration with business and DevOps teams • Define and execute strategic direction across enterprise services technology areas • Manage risk and cost considerations across services • Ensure service quality targets are consistently achieved • Engage with business stakeholders to define product roadmaps and align with available capabilities • Contribute to development activities, including writing code, understanding CI/CD pipelines, building automated test scripts for infrastructure products and upgrades, and developing integration interfaces between systems Required Skills & Experience • Strong expertise in server operating systems: Linux (RHEL), Windows, and VMware • In-depth knowledge of Dell PowerMax/Vmax3/SRDF/XtremIO, Pure FlashArray, HPE Primera, and Cirrus DMS • Experience with end-to-end server-to-storage mapping • Proficiency in Python, Ansible, and shell scripting for automation and as-a-service implementations • Experience in product testing and qualification • Strong background in server and storage remediation • Prior experience in storage, scripting, or automation-focused roles • Solid understanding of cloud and storage infrastructure • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and orchestration tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible Tower, or Jenkins • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and software engineering approaches • Experience in storage migrations (both storage- and server-based) Additional (Desirable) Experience • Experience in similar server engineering or infrastructure environments • Exposure to IT environments within financial services or large enterprises • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices • Relevant certifications (e.g., EMC, Pure, or cloud-related) Key Competencies • Continuous improvement mindset with a strong focus on implementing change effectively • Ability to work independently with ownership of personal development • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences • Structured approach to planning and prioritising work using problem-solving and analytical techniques • Proven ability to build strong stakeholder and customer relationships • Willingness to learn and upskill on new technologies, products, and services
