Role description
OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an independent contractor for Tableau Data Visualization work design and deliver clear, actionable visual insights for Pareto product offerings.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
Paretoβs Star & Member Rewards platform is being built on a modern S3 + Iceberg lakehouse, designed to unify large, complex client datasets. Tableau Cloud acts as the visual intelligence layer, turning backend data into client-specific dashboards.
Consultant will perform the following services for this discreet engagement:
1. Dashboard Development: Build/refine 14 dashboards using agreed mockups/KPIs.
1. Automated Refreshes: Schedule daily data refresh for each dashboard.
1. Testing & QA: Validate KPIs, visuals, data completeness, and performance.
1. Documentation & Handover: Deliver technical docs, operational guidelines, and conduct knowledge transfer sessions for Pareto Intelligence teams.
ANTICIPATED PROJECT DELIVERABLES
Upon completing the above defined scope of services, Consultant will deliver a documented summary of the services: Detailed Deliverables
1. Dashboard Development (~14 Dashboards)
The Consultant will deliver the following for each dashboard:
β’ Requirements Confirmation
o Finalized KPI definitions and calculation logic
o Approved wireframes/mockups
o Data source mapping document
β’ Dashboard Build
o Development of 14 Tableau dashboards aligned to approved designs
o Standardized layout, branding, and UX conventions
o Implementation of filters, parameters, and drill-down functionality
o Optimization for performance (load time, query efficiency)
β’ Data Integration
o Connection to approved data sources (e.g., data warehouse, flat files, APIs)
o Creation of calculated fields, joins, blends, or extracts as required
β’ Iteration Cycles
o Up to 2 rounds of stakeholder feedback and revisions per dashboard
β’ Publishing
o Deployment to designated Tableau Server / Tableau Cloud project folders
o Assignment of user permissions and access controls
1. Automated Refreshes
β’ Refresh Configuration
o Setup of daily scheduled refreshes for all dashboards/data sources
o Configuration of Tableau extracts (if applicable)
β’ Monitoring & Reliability
o Validation that refreshes jobs complete successfully
o Basic error handling and retry configuration (where supported)
β’ Documentation
o Refresh schedules documented (timing, dependencies, frequency)
o Data latency expectations clearly defined
β’ Handoff
o Instructions for modifying refresh schedules post-engagement
1. Testing & Quality Assurance
β’ Data Validation
o Reconciliation of KPIs against source systems or agreed benchmarks
o Spot-checking data accuracy across dashboards
β’ Functional Testing
o Validation of filters, parameters, and interactions
o Cross-device/browser compatibility checks
β’ Performance Testing
o Dashboard load time benchmarking
o Optimization of slow queries or heavy visualizations
β’ User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Support
o Facilitation of UAT sessions with stakeholders
o Tracking and resolution of defects/issues
β’ QA Deliverables
o QA checklist and test cases
o Issue/bug log with resolution status
1. Documentation & Handover
β’ Technical Documentation
o Data architecture overview (data sources, flows, transformations)
o KPI definitions and calculation logic
o Tableau workbook structure and design standards
β’ Operational Runbook
o Instructions for maintaining dashboards
o Troubleshooting common issues (refresh failures, broken connections, etc.)
o User access and permission management
β’ Knowledge Transfer
o 2 live training sessions (to be recorded) for Pareto Intelligence team
o Walkthrough of dashboards, data model, and backend logic
β’ Final Handover Package
o All Tableau workbooks (.twb/.twbx)
o Supporting files (data dictionaries, mapping docs)
o Documentation repository (shared drive or knowledge base)
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
β’ Strong data storytelling and visual design skills
β’ Strong proficiency with product and UX design principles
β’ Ability to communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
β’ Ability to manage multiple reporting priorities and deadlines
β’ Collaborative and proactive problem-solving approach
β’ Proficiency Tableau
β’ Strong SQL skills and experience querying relational databases
β’ Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
TIMING
Client expects this engagement to be completed within 3 months of the start date.
ASSUMPTIONS:
β’ Backend data models and calculations will be ready and tested before dashboard build.
β’ Access to all required datasets is available in Tableau Cloud.
β’ KPI definitions and dashboard designs are agreed before build.
COST:
Pareto will reimburse Consultant on a time and materials basis. Invoices are to be issued biweekly for payment, inclusive of documentation of work completed / accomplishments.
(Hourly Rate ranges from 40.00 - 100.00 per hour. Based on skillsets and experience level)
