Role description
Senior Technical Business Analyst | Infrastructure & OS Uplift
• Preston, 4 days onsite / 1 day WFH
• 3 months initially, 18+ month extension roadmap
• $750 - $840 p/d inclusive
The Opportunity
Our client is a market leader who has recently undergone a large merger merger. As they integrate two enterprise environments, they require a Technical Business Analyst (Infrastructure Stream) to lead the charge on a critical application rationalisation and infrastructure uplift program.
This is a high-visibility role within an IT Integration team. We aren't looking for a "process-only" BA; we need someone who understands the "plumbing" of an IT environment—servers, databases, and network configurations—to ensure a safe and efficient migration and decommissioning roadmap.
You will be the "Lead Detective" for the Infrastructure Stream. Your goal is to map out the current state of legacy and newly acquired infrastructure, identify risks, and create the "Run Sheets" that will guide the engineering teams through decommissioning and OS/DB uplifts.
Key Responsibilities
• Technical Discovery: Map out the "who, what, and where" of servers/VMs, OS/DBMS versions, agents, and network configs (DNS, Firewalls, Load Balancers).
• OS & Database Uplift: Coordinate complex SQL Server and OS version upgrades, managing compatibility testing and change windows.
• Impact Analysis: Produce detailed "Run Sheets" including pre-checks, execution steps, validation, and—most importantly—robust rollback plans.
• Governance & CAB: Draft high-quality ITIL change artefacts and navigate the Change Advisory Board (CAB) process for complex infrastructure shifts.
• Risk & Compliance: Identify compatibility risks and ensure all decommissioned data meets strict retention and secure disposal standards.
About You
You are a seasoned professional with 10+ years of experience in infrastructure and IT operations environments. Previous technical support role experience before having moved into Business Analysis could be beneficial.
• Infrastructure DNA: You understand VMs, platform rationalisation, and how applications sit on top of underlying hardware.
• Database Knowledge: Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server (installations, security hardening, and management).
• Migration Veteran: You have a track record of successfully decommissioning enterprise applications and managing "Hypercare" periods.
• Communication Specialist: You can translate deep technical risks into clear, concise business cases for Steering Committees and non-technical stakeholders.
• Certification/Education: Tertiary qualification in IT/Computer Science and a solid understanding of ITIL frameworks.
Please note: A National Police Check and a valid Driver’s Licence are required for this position
