Role description
Technical Lead - Automation (Python / AWS) Location - Remote, with occasional trip to Edinburgh/ Glasgow required Duration - 6 months with possible extensions Day rate - circa £550 p/d (outside ir35) We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to provide hands-on leadership to an agile development team delivering automation capabilities within a large-scale land registration platform. This role will focus on accelerating automation delivery by establishing strong engineering practices, building scalable cloud services, and guiding a team of Python engineers to deliver innovative AI-driven solutions. You will play a key role in delivering a production-ready automation service that leverages OCR, object detection, and large language models (LLMs) to support accurate and scalable decision-making. Key Responsibilities • Provide day-to-day technical leadership to a cross-functional agile development team. • Lead the design and delivery of automation services supporting land registration workflows. • Establish delivery practices including agile ceremonies, quality gates, and continuous improvement. • Design scalable, secure, and resilient solutions on the AWS cloud platform. • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines enabling frequent and safe releases. • Implement automation workflows that move cases through defined decision points with full auditability. • Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements including security, reliability, performance, and maintainability. • Implement monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and operational runbooks for production services. • Collaborate with product, design, operations, and data teams to shape the delivery roadmap. • Mentor engineers and champion engineering best practices across the team. Essential Skills & Experience • Proven experience leading high-performing software engineering teams. • Strong Python development (3.9+) and experience building APIs using FastAPI. • Commercial experience with AWS, including serverless architectures and infrastructure as code. • Experience with OCR, object detection, or LLM-based automation solutions. • Expertise with Docker, GitLab pipelines, and CI/CD practices. • Strong understanding of secure, scalable cloud architecture and operational readiness.
