Technical Lead

Technical Lead – Platform £70,000 - £90,000 A client of mine is building a multi-tenant AI platform that is live internally and now rolling out to multiple businesses. We are moving from an early product phase into a scalable, production-ready system. The platform is live and in use. It works. The next step is to make sure it scales properly. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will shape and stabilise the core architecture as we scale, while remaining actively involved in development. You will lead platform and infrastructure decisions and help establish the technical standards that support long-term growth. The Role We are relatively technology-agnostic at this stage. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence and refine tooling, infrastructure choices and development patterns as the platform matures. You will work closely with product and onboarding teams to ensure the system can support multiple clients, including enterprise organisations with large and complex data sets. We are primarily seeking a permanent full-time hire for this position. However, we are open to considering experienced fixed-term contractors, provided they can commit on a full-time basis and are prepared to take genuine ownership of the platform during the engagement. Responsibilities • Lead the design and evolution of the platform architecture • Ensure the system is scalable, reliable and secure • Own infrastructure and deployment strategy • Establish CI/CD and release processes • Improve system performance and resilience • Support integration with third-party systems and large external data sources • Contribute ideas for handling and structuring large-scale data effectively • Define technical standards and review processes • Mentor and support junior or mid-level developers • Balance delivery pace with long-term platform quality Technology & Platform Experience You are likely to work with or gain experience in the following areas. Existing experience is a plus but not mandatory. • Cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP • Designing and operating services in virtualised or containerised environments • CI/CD tooling and infrastructure automation • Working with AI-driven development tools such as Claude Code, Cline or similar agent-based coding workflows • Experience integrating or building around large language models • Working with data lakes, analytics platforms or large-scale SQL environments • Designing systems that integrate with multiple third-party APIs • Managing structured and semi-structured data at scale • Experience working with large enterprise data sets and high-volume workloads • Familiarity with modern data approaches such as vector databases or semantic indexing Requirements • Strong backend development experience • Experience designing and operating scalable systems • Solid understanding of infrastructure and DevOps practices • Experience working with cloud platforms • Strong SQL and data systems experience • Comfortable working in a scaling, product-led environment • Confident taking ownership of platform-level decisions We are looking for someone capable of taking responsibility for the technical foundation of a growing product. The salary will reflect the candidates experience in scalable systems, cloud infrastructure and platform-level decision making. We are open to discussion for exceptional candidates who can bring significant platform or enterprise-scale experience.
