Role description
Position Details:
CHEST is seeking a Temporary Independent Contractor Data Engineer. The expected work hours for this position are approximately 30-35 hours per week.We would also consider candidates whose schedules only allow 20 hours or less per week. This contract is expected to last approximately 10 months, and would be fully remote.
Primary Purpose
:The Temporary Independent Contractor Data Engineer (DE) is primarily responsible for maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, and enhancing production data pipelines and database systems. This role requires hands-on experience supporting live SSIS packages, SQL Server processes, and Snowflake workloads in production environments. The Temporary Independent Contractor Data Engineer will work closely with the Data Architect and Data Analytics team, acting as a data SME with a strong focus on CRM Support, cross-functional project work, and routine job monitoring
.
Essential Functions/Responsibilitie
1. Maintain data ingestion processes to Snowflake and MS SQL Server from a wide variety of data sources using Python, ELT tools, SSIS, and automation scripts.
1. Design and develop Snowflake and MS SQL Server database objects and procedural code to support various custom and third-party applications, including stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
1. Maintain and develop test and production environments that support CHESTβs CRM platform.
1. Optimize and tune SQL queries in both Snowflake and MS SQL databases by normalizing and denormalizing data as needed, while monitoring performance.
1. Monitor the day-to-day reliability of data ingestion and backup processes on production systems.
1. Collaborate with application developers and data analysts to provide data services and support for existing and new applications while maintaining data integrity.
1. Engineer large, complex data sets that meet business requirements while maintaining an optimal data pipeline.
1. Work with stakeholders including the Product, Data and Web Development and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
1. Support and troubleshoot application issues and document solutions.
1. Identify, design, and implement process improvements.
1. Perform deployment activities to pre-production and production systems.
1. Ensure quality and stability of the databases, while implementing efficiencies to reduce application and database support costs.
1. Work with the data analysts to build the production frameworks to orchestrate data pipelines, and automate workflow management in Snowflake, MS SQL, and other platforms as required.
1. Perform problem-solving of application issues and production errors, including high level critical production issues that require immediate attention.
Required Qualifications and Competenc
1. 3 + years working with Snowflake, MS SQL Server
1. 3+ years of practical experience with SQL and database maintenance, including stored procedures and SSIS packages
1. Understanding of data modeling concepts (e.g., star schema, normalization) and ETL/ELT design practices
1. Git fundamentals, Agile development, and CI/CD practices
1. Demonstrated experience working with CRM systems and data integrations
1. Demonstrated experience working with scripting languages (Python preferred)
1. Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field required
Compensation: The pay range for this position is $60-$65 per hour. CHEST considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, key skills, and market and organizational considerations when setting the hourly pay for our temporary independent contractor positions.
