Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced VFP Engineer to support, maintain, and modernize legacy Visual FoxPro applications. This role involves working with existing FoxPro systems while incrementally extending functionality using modern technologies such as C#, .NET, C, and SQL Server. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with older codebases, collaborating remotely, and documenting technical changes clearly.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, enhance, and support complex Visual FoxPro (VFP) applications
• Analyze legacy code and implement bug fixes and performance improvements
• Design and develop new modules using C# and the .NET Framework (desktop or web)
• Develop C-based components for performance‑critical functionality
• Plan and execute DBF/VFP to SQL Server data migrations, including schema design and data validation
• Perform data manipulation, optimization, and troubleshooting in SQL Server
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders including engineering, QA, and business teams
• Produce clear documentation for code changes, system behavior, and database schema updates
• Follow secure coding practices and organizational development standards
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience with Visual FoxPro (VFP) maintaining and supporting complex applications
• Experience developing applications or modules using C# and the .NET Framework
• Proficiency in C for extending application functionality or performance‑critical components
• Strong experience with SQL Server, including:
• Data migration from VFP/DBF systems
• Database design and implementation
• Data manipulation and troubleshooting
• Proven ability to debug and work effectively with legacy systems
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have – Not Mandatory)
• Experience developing UIs using SmartClient technologies
• Experience with SOAP/WSDL web services or API‑based integrations
• Familiarity with modern UI frameworks and incremental modernization patterns
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Soft Skills & Work Style
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, especially in legacy environments
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed, cross‑functional teams
• Strong documentation habits
• Self‑directed, reliable, and comfortable working in a remote, part‑time contract environment
