Job Title: Geographer 3Job Description
This contract Geographer 3 position offers an opportunity for a skilled GIS professional to contribute to the infrastructure of the Transmission Planning & Reliability (TPR) department. The incumbent will play a pivotal role, leveraging their expertise to enhance the maintenance, operation, and development of asset inventory and equipment ratings. The Geographer 3 will be responsible for providing advanced professional GIS services, encompassing data capture, storage, and analytical techniques within the ESRI software platform, particularly focusing on the Utility Network.
Responsibilities
β’ Provide SDE GIS database administration and management functions to validate optimal database integrity and performance.
β’ Design and implement advanced geo-processing scripts for data analysis, integration, reporting, and visualization of 3D GIS products.
β’ Design, implement, and sustain sophisticated network models of the transmission grid within the ESRI Utility Network environment.
β’ Work with IT GIS staff to refine and develop GIS data editing workflows.
β’ Develop and maintain documentation of data management and workflow processes.
β’ Participate in research, development, and recommendation of automated geospatial analytical approaches.
β’ Configure and maintain data within ESRI applications.
β’ Develop custom web mapping applications using industry-standard software development tools.
β’ Develop systematic quality assurance and control (QA/QC) methods and workflows.
β’ Create advanced geoprocessing scripts and/or models for data analysis and automation.
β’ Assist with the creation and maintenance of enterprise-wide ArcGIS feature layers.
β’ Design and maintain databases and verify data quality.
β’ Support timely delivery of data and map products for transmission facilities design, acquisition, and construction.
β’ Develop records and data management processes and tools.
β’ Prepare and maintain GIS datasets for external data sharing agreements.
β’ Give demonstrations, presentations, and produce documents on GIS work performed.
Essential Skills
β’ Bachelorβs degree in geography, cartography, natural resources, landscape architecture, environmental, urban or regional planning with a strong emphasis on computer-assisted spatial analysis.
β’ 6 years of experience with an applicable Bachelorβs degree or 10 years without a degree.
β’ Proficiency in providing professional GIS services utilizing computerized data capture, storage, and analysis techniques.
β’ Knowledge of PC operating systems and ESRI ArcGIS software.
β’ Working knowledge of scripting languages.
β’ Ability to develop and modify geo-processing models or scripts and design geographic and relational databases.
β’ Ability to lead or train staff in GIS analytical procedures.
β’ Ability to research and develop automated geospatial analytical approaches.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
β’ Basic knowledge of image processing, remote sensing, and LiDAR data mediums.
β’ Intermediate experience with Utility Network.
β’ GISP (Geographic Information Systems Professional) certification.
Work Environment
The TPR organization is responsible for the Facility Ratings program, which manages systems and processes to enhance performance, reliability, and sustainability of the grid. The work environment is a slower-paced office setting with somewhat flexible hours and a business casual dress code. The role requires a very independent work style, often involving waiting on others for approvals and paperwork. The position is deadline-driven and offers limited supervision.
