About the Role
Weβre seeking a seasoned Database Administrator with 12+ years of experience to support enterprise-level database systems for the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB). This role involves advanced SQL development, database architecture, performance tuning, and administration across development, test, and production environments.
Key Responsibilities
SQL & PL/SQL Development
Write and optimize advanced SQL and PL/SQL functions, procedures, and packages.
Review and test code for performance and scalability.
Support application developers with SQL design and data access strategies.
Database Architecture & Design
Collaborate with Solutions Architects to design scalable database solutions.
Develop and enforce database standards and procedures.
Plan hosting architecture aligned with State standards and business needs.
Database Administration & Maintenance
Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances.
Perform backups, restores, and recovery testing.
Monitor performance and apply patches and upgrades.
Manage indexes, partitions, and schema parameters.
Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Support
Resolve performance bottlenecks and system alerts.
Analyze logs and metrics to diagnose issues.
Coordinate server setup and physical database components.
Data Integrity, Security & Governance
Manage user roles, permissions, and access controls.
Ensure compliance with data security policies.
Support disaster recovery and high availability strategies.
Collaborate with data warehouse teams on data transformation.
Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
SQL: 10+ years
PowerShell: 6+ years
Azure DevOps: 6+ years
Scrum: 6+ years
Strong proficiency in T-SQL and PL/SQL
Experience with SSMS, SQL Server Agent, SolarWinds, Redgate, or Idera
Solid understanding of database security, backup, and recovery
Familiarity with ETL, PowerShell scripting, and/or Azure SQL is a plus
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Work Environment
Hybrid schedule: 2 days onsite (Wednesday & Thursday)
Collaborative team setting with cross-functional IT and DevOps teams
