Role description
A prominent organization in the legal services and public interest technology sector is seeking an AI Engineer to support the design, maintenance, and enhancement of AI systems—particularly AI-powered chatbots and LLM-based tools. This role bridges cutting-edge AI development with real-world legal service applications, contributing directly to increased efficiency and access to justice for underserved populations. Key Responsibilities • Create, test, and optimize AI prompts to ensure chatbots deliver accurate, ethical, and useful responses in legal contexts. • Monitor chatbot performance and implement improvements. • Develop documentation for prompt strategies and templates. • Run and maintain open-source LLMs in local environments using tools like Docker. • Develop and test AI tools that address business and legal service needs. • Implement safeguards to ensure data privacy and client confidentiality. • Work closely with legal and non-technical staff to understand needs and deliver tailored AI solutions. • Train users on prompt usage and safe, compliant interaction with AI tools. • Support non-technical staff in the day-to-day use of AI systems. • Evaluate AI model performance for accuracy, fairness, and alignment with mission-driven goals. • Stay up to date with advancements in AI, LLMs, and legal tech. Candidate Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or related field. • 1+ years of experience with AI systems, NLP, or prompt engineering. • Hands-on experience crafting prompts for large language models. • Familiarity with Docker and containerized environments. • Basic knowledge of legal terminology or legal processes. • Strong ethical standards around AI usage and data privacy. Preferred • Experience working in legal tech or AI for legal services. • Familiarity with open-source LLMs (e.g., LLaMA, Mistral). • Python programming skills. • Experience with Git or version control systems. • Understanding of responsible AI practices and bias mitigation.
