AI Engineer (Contract) – Semantic Search Project Location: Remote (must be based in UK) Contract: ~3 months, starting September (handover available before end of month) We’re working with a Private Equity–backed Data business that has evolved a mature legacy environment into a complex data platform delivering structured intelligence, natural language query, and semantic search capabilities. The business is now in Phase 3 of a hybrid/semantic search build and needs an AI Engineer on a contract basis to step in immediately and deliver. This is a hands-on execution role, not R&D, not discovery. What You’ll Do • Deploy embedding models on SageMaker. • Build pipelines with Step Functions, Lambda, S3, EventBridge. • Generate embeddings and push them into OpenSearch. • Implement hybrid queries (semantic + lexical). • Update search endpoints. What You’ll Need • Proven experience productionising semantic/hybrid search pipelines. • Deep knowledge of AWS OpenSearch, SageMaker, embeddings, vector DBs. • Expertise with Step Functions + Lambda. • Ability to hit the ground running and deliver against a defined design.
