About the Project
Join a key initiative to build a centralized communication platform for the State of Vermont that manages all customer interactions — including paper correspondence, email, text alerts, and more. This solution will streamline communications and improve citizen engagement across multiple channels.
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled API Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs. You will play a critical role in building secure, high-performance RESTful and SOAP APIs as part of a microservices architecture to support this large-scale government project.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java (Java 8+)
• Build and maintain RESTful and SOAP APIs to support front-end applications and third-party integrations
• Optimize backend system performance for low latency and high availability
• Ensure security, scalability, and reliability of APIs
• Conduct code reviews and adhere to coding standards
• Troubleshoot and debug production issues across services and databases
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including DevOps and QA, to implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
Required Skills & Experience:
• Strong proficiency in Java (Java 8 or higher) and object-oriented programming principles
• Expertise in API design and development (REST, SOAP) with deep knowledge of HTTP and SOAP protocols
• Hands-on experience with Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC)
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and best practices
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL preferred)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is a plus
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools
• Proficiency with version control systems like Git or SVN
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in government or public sector projects
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
