Translate internal data structures into external API schemas aligned to Availity specifications.
Implement authentication, authorization, and API security controls such as OAuth, token-based authentication, and encryption.
Develop request/response models, validation logic, and standardized error handling.
Optimize API performance and ensure services can handle high-volume provider queries.
Support the implementation of API gateways and external access layers.
Work with architects and engineering teams to design scalable and maintainable integration patterns.
Implement logging, monitoring, and observability to support operational visibility and troubleshooting.
Participate in integration testing with Availity sandbox environments and help address integration issues.
Support CI/CD pipelines and assist with deployment across development, testing, and production environments.
Contribute to documentation for API endpoints, integration flows, and system architecture.
Required Experience:
Strong experience building REST APIs using Java, preferably with Spring Boot.
Experience developing backend services that integrate with relational databases such as SQL Server or Postgres.
Strong understanding of API design principles, including request/response modeling, error handling, versioning, and performance considerations.
Experience implementing secure APIs, including authentication, encryption, and access control.
Experience deploying applications in cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
Experience working on system integration projects, connecting internal systems with external platforms or partner systems.
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize backend services in distributed environments.
Nice to Have:
Experience working in healthcare or payer environments, particularly around eligibility, benefits, or claims data.
Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as EDI (270/271), HL7, or FHIR.
Experience integrating with external partner platforms or provider networks.
Experience working with API management platforms such as Azure API Management, Apigee, Kong, or MuleSoft.
Familiarity with containerization and DevOps tools such as Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience building APIs that support high-availability or high-throughput environments.
