Role description
We are seeking a Power Platform and Copilot/Azure AI Developer to design and build intelligent conversational agents and workflow automation solutions for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The developer will leverage Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, and Azure AI services to deliver advanced chatbots and process automation that improve productivity across NCDOT’s Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, and external systems. The ideal candidate is hands-on with chatbot design, workflow automation, and AI/LLM integration. This role is not focused on administration, but requires deployment experience within Power Platform environments and the ability to integrate solutions securely and efficiently. This position requires candidates to be local to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area and available onsite up to 3 days per week. The Power Platform and Copilot/Azure AI Developer will be responsible for: Design, develop, and deploy Copilot Studio chatbots with advanced dialog flows and branching logic. Integrate chat-driven interfaces across Teams, SharePoint, and M365 applications. Build and maintain Power Automate workflows that connect Microsoft 365, external APIs, and databases. Develop Power Apps to extend chatbot and workflow capabilities. Configure custom connectors and third-party integrations. Implement and optimize solutions using Azure AI services and external LLM platforms (Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT). Apply governance, security, and compliance policies across Power Platform environments. Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to troubleshoot integration issues and ensure smooth deployments. Document configurations, integration points, and best practices for knowledge sharing. Expertise and/or Relevant Experience: Required Skills - Power Platform and Copilot/Azure AI Developer M1. 3+ years of hands-on Power Platform development (deployment to environments, solution-based deployment). M2. 6+ years of experience with Power Automate workflows across M365 and external systems. M3. 4+ years of Power Apps development. M4. 3+ years of SharePoint development and integration. M5. 5+ years of experience working with Microsoft 365 ecosystem. M6. 1+ years hands-on with Copilot Studio chatbot development. M7. 1+ years integrating chatbots with external services. M8. 2+ years of Azure AI service development. M9. 2+ years working with non-Microsoft LLM platforms (e.g., Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT). M10. Candidates must currently reside in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area. Highly Desired Skills - Power Platform and Copilot/Azure AI Developer D1.Microsoft Certifications: PL-900 (Power Platform Fundamentals), AI-900 (Azure AI Fundamentals), AI-102 (AI Engineer), MS-900 (M365 Fundamentals). D2. Strong understanding of Power Platform governance and security best practices. D3. Experience deploying in DevOps environments with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines. D4. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. D5. Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid government IT setting.
