Role description
Overview We are seeking an AI Software Engineer with real, hands-on experience building AI-powered systems in production. This is a foundational engineering role, focused on applied, product-driven AI—not research, not experiments, and not prompt-only work. Approximately: • 70% → Product-focused AI development • 30% → Internal workflow and process improvements You will design and build RAG chat systems, embed AI into business workflows, and help define how AI is responsibly and effectively used across the organization. This role is ideal for an engineer who has already shipped AI systems, enjoys autonomy, and wants to apply AI to real business problems. What You’ll Build • RAG-based chat systems that leverage existing content and knowledge bases • AI tools for navigating complex regulatory and content-heavy informationExample: a chatbot that answers state-specific questions about upcoming regulations • Internal AI tools that improve how teams access, summarize, and use information • Production-grade systems that are reliable, explainable, and maintainable Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and deploy AI-powered product features using modern LLM architectures • Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems with embeddings and vector databases • Work with engineering, product, and domain teams to turn real business needs into AI solutions • Recommend AI opportunities for improving departmental workflows • Make architectural decisions and clearly document tradeoffs and system design • Integrate AI capabilities into the existing technology stack • Establish best practices for applied AI development across the organization Technical Environment • Language: TypeScript (primary preference) • Frontend / Full-stack: Next.js • Backend: PHP (Laravel) • AI Systems: LLM APIs, embeddings, vector databases • You will be building within the current tech stack—not replacing it. Required Qualifications • Proven experience building and shipping AI systems in production • Strong general software engineering skills (beyond prompt writing) • Hands-on experience with: • RAG systems • Embeddings & vector search • LLM-based applications • Ability to design systems from scratch and operate in ambiguous technical spaces • Strong cross-team collaboration skills • Clear communication and sound engineering judgment What This Role Is NOT • Not a data scientist role • Not research or academic ML • Not a prompt engineering–only role • Not proof-of-concept–only work We need builders, not slide-deck creators. Success Metrics First 90 Days • Ship initial AI-powered features or internal tools • Define a clear RAG architecture aligned with product goals • Identify and recommend high-impact AI use cases across departments 6–12 Months • Own and evolve core AI systems • Improve product experience through AI-driven capabilities • Influence future AI hiring and technical direction Why This Role Matters • Foundational AI hire with real ownership • Majority product-focused, not just internal automation • Meaningful, real-world AI applications • Fully remote with strong autonomy • Opportunity to influence how AI is applied across the entire organization
