Role description
Job Summary Associate Fraud Strategy Data Scientist — 6-month W-2 contract, San Jose, CA. $50/hr. 0–2 years experience in fraud/risk analytics for eCommerce/payments. Work in Pacific Time, multiple Zoom interviews with SQL assessment. About the role You’ll work with the fraud & trust team to design and execute data-driven strategies that detect and mitigate fraud while preserving a great customer experience. This is a hands-on role combining SQL, Python, analytics, rule development, and dashboarding to create real-time protections at scale. Key responsibilities Design rules and detection strategies to mitigate fraud across payments and product abuse. Develop Python scripts and models to support fraud strategies and rule scoring. Investigate novel or large fraud cases and identify root causes. Work with product and engineering to deploy controls and operationalize rules. Build dashboards and visualizations to track KPIs and strategy performance (Tableau / Quicksight). Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership. Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience. 0–2 years of experience in risk analytics, fraud, payments, or investigation/product abuse in eCommerce/online payments environment. Strong SQL proficiency; experience working with large datasets. Proficiency in Python and key data science libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn). Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau required; AWS Quicksight a plus). Strong communication skills — able to explain complex results to technical and non-technical audiences. Nice to have Experience with fraud investigations, payment rule systems, or fraud typologies. Familiarity working with ML teams and deploying analytic solutions in production. AWS experience.
