Atlassian Platform Migration Engineer (Jira/Confluence)

Location: Onsite 3 days a wk; Hybrid – Office location is Charlotte NC Required Pay Scale: $65-70hr W2 • • • Due to client requirements this role is only open to USC or GC candidates • • • Summary: The Atlassian Platform Migration Specialist is a senior, hands-on technical role responsible for planning, executing, and supporting largescale migrations from Atlassian Data Center to Atlassian Cloud. The role requires deep expertise in Jira and Confluence Data Center architectures, Atlassian Cloud capabilities, and migration tooling. This role bridges delivery and solution architecture, owning detailed technical execution while contributing to migration strategy, target state Cloud architecture, and platform standards. The specialist supports and executes migrations end-to-end while shaping scalable, supportable platform designs under the guidance of senior architects or platform leads, and plays a key role in postmigration optimization. Responsibilities: Data Center to Cloud Migration (Primary Focus) • Lead end-to-end migrations from Jira and Confluence Data Center to Atlassian Cloud, including assessment, planning, execution, validation, and stabilization • Perform pre-migration discovery and analysis of Data Center environments: • Projects, workflows, custom fields, screens, permissions • Apps/plugins, integrations, and automation • Performance, scale, and data volume considerations • Design migration strategies (phased, wave-based, pilot-first, or hybrid) aligned to business risk, regulatory requirements, and scale constraints • Execute migrations using Atlassian-supported migration tooling (e.g., Jira Cloud Migration Assistant, Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant) and enterprise-approved approaches • Identify and remediate app compatibility gaps, including replacement, refactoring, or retirement of Data Center-only plugins • Manage data integrity, validation, and reconciliation post-migration (issues, history, attachments, users, permissions) • Support parallel-run and rollback strategies where required for high-risk migrations Atlassian Platform Administration (Cloud & Data Center) • Administer Jira Software and Confluence in both Data Center and Cloud environments during transition phases • Design and maintain complex Jira workflows, schemes, automation, dashboards, and advanced JQL filters • Manage Confluence spaces, macros, templates, and access models optimized for Cloud usage patterns • Maintain customizations and configurations across multiple environments and migration waves • Integrations, DevOps, and Enterprise Enablement • Re-engineer integrations between Atlassian tools and Bitbucket, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and enterprise platforms for Cloud compatibility • Partner with security, risk, and compliance teams to ensure Cloud configurations align with enterprise control requirements • Provide technical leadership and guidance to platform teams, project teams, and application owners during migration • Deliver training, documentation, and adoption support for Cloud features and new operating models Qualifications: • 5-8+ years of hands-on experience administering Atlassian Jira and Confluence Data Center platforms • Proven, hands-on experience leading Data Center Cloud migrations for Jira and/or Confluence (large-scale or regulated environments strongly preferred) • Expert-level knowledge of: o Jira workflows, schemes, permissions, and automation o Advanced JQL, dashboards, and reporting Desired Qualifications: • Strong troubleshooting skills across applications and integrations • Experience as a solution architect • Experience handling plugin rationalization and Cloud app replacement strategies • Scripting and automation using Groovy, ScriptRunner, or Jira Automation • Experience supporting high-availability, multi-node Data Center environments prior to migration About Matlen Silver Experience Matters.
