Role description
Role : Automotive Business analyst (Used & Salvage Vehicles) Location : Remote Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Business Analyst with domain expertise in vehicle parts, used vehicle procurement, and totaled vehicle (salvage) acquisition. This role will bridge business operations, data, and technology to optimize sourcing, pricing, inventory, and resale strategies across the automotive lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Business Analysis & Requirements • Gather and document business requirements across used vehicle purchasing, salvage acquisition, and parts resale • Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, and process flows • Partner with product, engineering, and operations teams to implement scalable solutions Domain-Focused Analysis • Analyze vehicle acquisition channels (auctions, dealers, insurance partners) • Evaluate totaled vehicle valuation models (repairable vs total loss economics) • Support parts harvesting strategies and inventory optimization • Monitor vehicle lifecycle profitability from purchase → dismantling → parts resale Data & Insights • Develop dashboards and reports on: • Vehicle purchase price vs resale value • Parts yield and margin per vehicle • Auction performance and supplier quality • Identify trends in vehicle depreciation, damage types, and parts demand • Perform cost-benefit analysis on repair vs dismantle decisions Process Optimization • Improve workflows for: • Salvage vehicle intake and inspection • Parts cataloging and inventory management • Vendor and auction integrations • Recommend automation opportunities in pricing, sourcing, and inventory allocation Stakeholder Collaboration • Work closely with: • Procurement teams (vehicle sourcing) • Operations (yards, dismantling, logistics) • Finance (margin and ROI analysis) • Technology teams (systems, integrations) Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field • 3–7 years of Business Analyst experience • Direct experience in at least one: • Automotive parts industry (OEM or aftermarket) • Used vehicle purchasing or remarketing • Salvage / totaled vehicle acquisition (insurance, auctions, dismantlers) Preferred Skills & Experience • Strong understanding of: • Vehicle valuation (e.g., auction pricing, residual value) • Salvage categories (total loss, rebuildable, scrap) • Parts grading and resale markets • Experience with auction platforms (e.g., Copart, IAAI) or dealership systems • Familiarity with VIN decoding, vehicle history data, and damage assessment Technical Skills • SQL and data analysis tools (Excel, Python, or similar) • BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker) • Experience with ERP, inventory management, or auction systems • Knowledge of APIs and data integration concepts is a plus Key Competencies • Analytical thinking and problem-solving • Strong communication and stakeholder management • Ability to work in fast-paced, operations-heavy environments • Attention to detail with a data-driven mindset Nice to Have • Experience working with insurance carriers or total loss claims • Exposure to supply chain/logistics optimization • Knowledge of regulatory/compliance requirements in salvage vehicle handling Success Metrics • Improved vehicle acquisition ROI • Increased parts yield and inventory turnover • Reduction in procurement and processing costs • Enhanced data visibility and decision-making accuracy
