AWS Data Services Engineer
Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are seeking an AWS Data Services Engineer with an AI-first mindset to meet the evolving needs of our business. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying data sources, creating and maintaining data pipelines, and optimizing database performance within a Financial Reporting context. This position requires research and learning of AI tools and concepts to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Design schemas, load data, and optimize performance for analytical workloads using Amazon Athena and/or Redshift.
• Manage S3 bucket structures, data organization, lifecycle management, and integration with analytics platforms.
• Utilize Glue Jobs to create Data Pipelines with ETL capabilities.
• Design, optimize, and maintain relational data models for reporting and analytics use cases.
• Write, tune, and troubleshoot complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and views.
• Build and maintain reliable, scalable, and automated data pipelines with appropriate monitoring and error handling.
• Develop datasets, semantic models, dashboards, and reports for business and finance stakeholders using Power BI.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3–4 years in a technical role within Financial Reporting, with experience in identifying data sources, creating data pipelines, and optimizing database performance.
Technical Skills:
• AWS Data Services: Amazon Athena, Redshift, S3, Glue Jobs.
• Database Design & Development: Experience designing, optimizing, and maintaining relational data models.
• T-SQL: Proficiency in writing, tuning, and troubleshooting complex queries.
• ETL & Data Integration: Hands-on experience with ETL tools and frameworks.
• BI & Reporting Tools: Experience with Power BI and familiarity with Smart View.
Preferred Qualifications
• 1–2 years of experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance data engineering or analytics workflows.
• Practical knowledge of grounding large language models (LLMs) to structured data stores.
• Understanding of data quality, security, and governance considerations when integrating AI solutions.
• Deep understanding of Financial Reporting concepts and processes.
• Insurance and/or Financial Services industry experience.
• Familiarity with Oracle ERP/EPM modules, Expense Data, Capital Data, and Sales Data.
Soft Skills & Work Style
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with finance, reporting, and technology teams.
• Clear communication skills for translating technical concepts to business stakeholders.
