Role description
Position Title: Azure Data Engineer Location: New York, NY (Manhattan) Job Type: Long-Term Contract Work Mode: Hybrid (2–3 days onsite per week) Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Data Engineer to join a leading utility provider in New York, NY. This long-term contract role offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment while contributing to cutting-edge data solutions that drive analytics, business intelligence, and enterprise-wide decision-making. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise with Azure cloud services, ETL pipelines, Databricks, and SQL, combined with a strong background in data security, governance, and performance optimization. Key Responsibilities β€’ Design, implement, and maintain data solutions using Azure cloud services. β€’ Develop and optimize ETL processes and data pipelines to ensure scalability and efficiency. β€’ Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across all platforms. β€’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data architecture supporting BI and advanced analytics. β€’ Create reports and dashboards using Power BI Report Server. β€’ Troubleshoot data-related issues and provide recommendations for improvement. Required Technical Skills β€’ Strong ability to interpret, modify, and write SQL queries and scripts. β€’ Hands-on experience as an Azure Data Engineer with: β€’ Azure Databricks β€’ Azure Data Factory β€’ Power BI Report Server β€’ Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and automation. Desired Technical Skills β€’ 3+ years of experience creating stored procedures in SQL. β€’ Knowledge of .NET C# for integration and development tasks. Required Qualifications 1. Azure Platform Expertise β€’ Proven experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Data Lake, and Power BI. β€’ Ability to design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines, manage data lakes, and develop reports/visualizations. β€’ Exposure to Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure ML is a plus. β€’ Strong SQL skills are mandatory; .NET C# is a strong plus. 1. Azure Security β€’ Strong understanding of security protocols on Azure (IAM, encryption, network security, secure data communication, serverless security). 1. Data Governance β€’ Hands-on experience implementing data governance frameworks including ownership models, data quality, compliance, and privacy measures. β€’ Knowledge of data cataloging, lineage, and metadata management. 1. Certifications β€’ Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate (Required). β€’ Azure certifications such as Azure Security Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert are highly desirable. β€’ Databricks Machine Learning Certification preferred.
