Azure Engineer

Job Title: Azure Engineer Duration: 3+ Month Contract Location: Remote (EST Hrs) Position Overview: We're seeking an experienced Azure Engineer to support a high-impact migration project for our client. The engineer will play a critical role in the assessment, design, execution, and optimization of a migration from a shared on-premises Active Directory (AD) environment to a cloud-native Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) infrastructure. This role will be part of a cross-functional project team responsible for enabling corporate identity environment to operate independently of its existing product-based domain. Key Responsibilities: 1. Assessment & Discovery Conduct comprehensive inventory of existing AD domains, users, devices, GPOs, and security groups. Evaluate current AD environment health, dependencies, and security posture. Document existing application integrations and identity management mechanisms. 1. Architecture & Planning Design a scalable, secure Azure/Entra ID architecture to support ~900 users and ~1200 endpoints. Collaborate on a phased migration roadmap incorporating Zero Trust, Conditional Access, and Identity Governance. Participate in project planning including resource estimation, risk identification, and stakeholder reviews. 1. Environment Preparation Lead setup of Azure AD tenant and hybrid identity configuration (Azure AD Connect, Entra ID Governance). Conduct compatibility testing for apps, devices, and authentication flows. Develop automation scripts and user communication templates for migration execution. 1. Migration Execution Execute phased migration of users and devices to Azure AD/Entra ID. Configure SSO, Conditional Access, device compliance, and policy enforcement. Provide real-time monitoring, issue triage, and troubleshooting support during migration waves. Assist in planning for legacy AD decommissioning and clean-up. 1. Post-Migration Optimization Validate successful migration of identities, devices, and policies. Deliver training materials, documentation, and lead knowledge transfer sessions. Configure post-migration monitoring and alerting mechanisms. Provide recommendations for long-term identity governance and support. Required Skills and Experience: 5+ years of experience in enterprise identity and access management. Proven experience with Azure AD (Entra ID) architecture, migrations, and hybrid identity setups. Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, Azure AD Connect, and SSO solutions. Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture, Conditional Access, and Entra ID Governance. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation. Strong analytical, documentation, and troubleshooting skills. Experience in client-facing roles with excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Preferred Qualifications: Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert. Experience with device management (Intune), M365 integration, and legacy AD decommissioning. Familiarity with ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
