Backend Engineering Consultant (W2 ONLY )

Job Title: Backend Engineering Consultant – FinE (Financial Engineering) Location: REMOTE W2 ONLY - not able to sponsor for this role now or in the future Need to have experience in Financial Engineering and/or Accounting systems Responsibilities • Design, implement, and maintain backend services for financial data processing (e.g., accounting, invoices, payouts, reporting) • Develop APIs and gRPC interfaces for internal and external integrations • Apply functional programming principles (primarily in Java) • Ensure code quality and mitigate financial risks through automated testing and code reviews • Manage schema evolution and remote configuration for backend services • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize service performance • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data, product, accounting) to deliver robust solutions Requirements: • Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or Consultant, ideally in financial or accounting domains • Strong proficiency in Java (functional programming), with experience in async programming • Experience with API design (REST/gRPC) and schema management • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and monitoring tools • Familiarity with AI agent assisted coding using Claude Code • Solid understanding of testing methodologies and CI/CD pipelines • Excellent communication and documentation skills • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams • Experience with clients backend stack or similar large-scale distributed systems • Knowledge of financial data concepts (accounting, payouts, reporting, compliance) • Prior work with squads in the FinE mission
