Role description
Senior Business Analyst – Finance Systems Modernization
The Senior Business Analyst is a key member of a cross-functional Agile Scrum Team. In partnership with the Product Owner, the Sr. BA assesses business needs, elicits requirements, defines features, and creates high-quality user stories that drive a healthy Product Backlog. This role sits within a CFO-sponsored Finance Transformation initiative and is critical to unifying and modernizing how the organization manages advisor compensation and payment processing.
With an emphasis on strategic product development and data-driven analysis, the Sr. BA enables the Scrum team to deliver meaningful business value through technology while promoting Agile/Scrum best practices. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly analytical, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
Project Overview – Finance Systems Consolidation
You will support the Finance organization on a major enterprise initiative focused on how advisors are paid and how payments are received. This effort is directly sponsored by the CFO.
The organization currently operates a mismatched ecosystem of financial systems, including:
• Three major engines, plus
• Numerous satellite and supporting platforms
The goal of this project is to reverse-engineer, analyze, and unify these systems into a consolidated financial data structure.
You will play a foundational role in mapping data flows, identifying system dependencies, and providing the clarity needed for future architectural modernization.
Primary Responsibilities
Core BA & Agile Responsibilities
• Partner with the Product Owner to shape strategic initiatives and prioritize features aligned with business objectives.
• Drive requirements gathering with business partners and stakeholders through interviews, analysis, and research.
• Translate complex business needs into clear, detailed requirements and actionable user stories with acceptance criteria.
• Produce supporting documentation including process flows, wireframes, and product artifacts.
• Maintain and refine an organized Product Backlog.
• Participate in all Scrum ceremonies: backlog refinements, stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Provide QA/UAT support as needed.
• Partner with UX, engineering, and organizational readiness to ensure seamless delivery and rollout.
• Provide mentorship to less experienced BAs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Finance Data & Systems Responsibilities
• Perform reverse-engineering across all financial platforms to understand:
• Where data originates
• How it flows
• Where it is stored
• How systems interact
• Conduct end-to-end data analysis, documentation, and discovery across multiple financial systems.
• Interview stakeholders across Finance, Operations, and Technology to uncover true data sources before diving into systems for extraction and quantitative analysis.
• Define, organize, and consolidate data insights for the Finance Transformation team.
• Support the organization’s move toward a single, unified financial data structure.
• Build dashboards and reporting views that improve transparency and decision-making for leadership.
• Provide foundational analysis that will later support hiring a permanent Data Architect.
Required Skills & Experience
• 5–7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or similar role, with proven success.
• 5+ years in financial services or retirement industry required.
• Strong experience working with financial data, advisor compensation, payment systems, or financial platforms.
• Technical, data-focused BA with strong analytical ability.
• Skilled in SQL and analytical tools; comfortable digging into databases and data structures.
• Demonstrated experience documenting complex systems, data flows, and cross-system interactions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; skilled at stakeholder interviews and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience defining user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting testing/UAT.
• Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum practices and experience working as part of a Scrum team.
• Proactive, self-driven, highly investigative mindset—able to get answers and push work forward independently.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
