Business Analyst (Energy Grid Ops)

Job Title: Business Analyst Sector: Power Systems / Energy Networks Engagement: Contract Client: Leading UK Distribution Network Operator (DNO) Overview A leading UK Distribution Network Operator is seeking a Business Analyst to support programmes across power systems, energy markets and operational technology platforms. This role sits at the intersection of engineering operations, market analytics and digital transformation. The successful candidate will work closely with operational, trading and technology teams to translate business requirements into data driven insights and system improvements. The position focuses on improving system reliability, operational efficiency and decision making across the network through strong analytical capability and a deep understanding of energy market dynamics. Key Responsibilities • Gather, analyse and document business and technical requirements for grid and energy market systems • Work with operations, trading and technology teams to understand operational challenges and translate them into structured requirements • Analyse generation, demand and market performance data to support operational and commercial decision making • Develop scenario models to assess network performance, energy demand trends and market impacts • Support the delivery and optimisation of digital platforms used across power systems and energy market operations • Produce dashboards and reporting using Power BI, Tableau and Excel to visualise network and market data • Work with data teams to extract, manipulate and analyse datasets using SQL • Identify opportunities for process improvement across operational and technology workflows • Ensure solutions and system processes align with regulatory and market compliance requirements • Act as the bridge between business stakeholders and IT delivery teams across transformation initiatives Required Experience • Experience working as a Business Analyst within energy, utilities or power systems environments • Strong understanding of electricity markets, grid operations or energy trading environments • Proven experience gathering and documenting business and system requirements • Experience analysing operational or market data related to generation, demand or network performance • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across both technical and non technical teams • Experience delivering insights and reporting through Power BI, Tableau or similar analytics platforms • Strong Excel capability including data modelling and analysis • Experience querying and analysing data using SQL Desirable Experience • Exposure to Distribution Network Operators, Transmission System Operators or energy trading environments • Experience supporting digital transformation or operational technology programmes within utilities • Knowledge of power systems, grid management platforms or market settlement systems • Experience working with large operational datasets in energy markets Key Skills • Analytical and data driven mindset • Strong communication and stakeholder management • Ability to translate complex operational requirements into clear system solutions • Commercial awareness of energy markets and network performance drivers • Structured problem solving and process improvement capability Outcome of the Role The Business Analyst will play a critical role in improving the way operational and market data is captured, analysed and used across the network, helping drive more efficient power system operations and stronger decision making across the organisation.
