Role Requirements:
• Proven experience in metadata management and data governance within highly regulated environments.
• Strong understanding of GDPR, PII, export controls, and protective markings.
• Ability to work within Azure-based ecosystems and integrate emerging services.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Acts as a business analyst with deep data governance and metadata expertise.
• Lead the design of the programme-wide metadata schema that must scale across all nations.
• Engage with business users, legal teams, and security/export-control specialists to understand how data is classified and what restrictions apply.
• Capture existing metadata requirements from stakeholders and harmonise them into a single structured model.
• Consider and design for GDPR, PII, UK and international government protective markings, export control rules, and the EU AI Act.
• Define controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and metadata categories needed for compliant data sharing.
• Work closely with Data Custodians and Data Governance Deputy to ensure metadata and policy frameworks align.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience with metadata management tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
• Knowledge of data modeling and enterprise architecture principles.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) for metadata integration.
